@TedUnderwood The article makes sense to the realist (or perhaps cynic) in me but the caveat '...whether that exposure leadsto augmentation or substitution will depend on specifics of any given occupation' is key isn't it. The difference between risks and opportunities are crucial at this stage of proceedings. Fields that focus too much on the former (as the humanities are wont to do) could well miss the latter.

@TedUnderwood @sharonmleon @foundhistory @mia @simon Katherine Hayles’ Unthought is good on this imho, exploring ‘non-conscious cognition’ in an expansive way that reflects solid scientific and technical research but draws a clear line between that concept and everyday interpretations of (solely human or even animal) ‘intelligence’.
