@lowqualityfacts problem is that it takes balls to quit fannying about.

@lowqualityfacts billionaire swamp logic: you get your thumbs on the scales, then I get mine.

@clive on your side here. However, do subsidies to consumers really ever incentivise manufacturers to cut costs or does it make excessive pricing a “design feature”?Would preferential loans to manufacturers or similar help take away a lot of the risk of scaling up production (usually a key way to cut unit cost in capital intensive processes) while encouraging more competitive pricing to consumers to ensure volumes get shifted?

@clive I think solar has an intuitive commercial appeal in terms of clear payback periods and detailled power bills. This seems more like my waste collection where I know I am incentivised to reduce, reuse or recycle as much as possible but the actual savings are unclear. Another alternative is to increase carbon cost of ICE vehicles! 😀 All sorts of evidence to show that people invest much more in aggregate in energy efficiency solutions when cost of fossil fuels is high.

@clive I get the burst-of-invective-as-a-relief-valve idea. Former colleague - who played sport at an international level - said it irked him when I did it until he realised I was calm and re-immersed seconds later. Interestingly, just realised that I no longer do it within earshot.Less sure about the embedding of swear words correlating with higher quality output though. Emotional involvement leads to better results - sure. But leaving stuff in sounds sloppy / juvenile...

@clive “I'm all these words, all these strangers, this dust of words, with no ground for their settling, no sky for their dispersing, coming together to say, fleeing one another to say, that I am they, all of them, those that merge, those that part, those that never meet […]” ~ Beckett, The UnnamableMundane question, but how does the need for corporate confidentiality play into this potentially widespread use of cloud-based tools?
