@mikeneumann @theDanielJLewis @benjaminbellamy Couldn't disagree more on Leo's relevance. As we've shown with people like @Todd_Blubrry once they understand, they are our strongest ally. Leo seems to agree on everything about ad-revenue and the threat of big tech.

@csb If you're seriously using ChatGPT as some form of proof, then you're wasting my time there! That way madness lies. Those that have been de-platformed would appear to be mostly on the far right, so there is some substance to Leo's accusation there, I'm afraid. But we know this - it's why the whole "free speech" marketing of the index has been, rightly, toned down since launch. We can learn from this, rather than criticise the messenger.

@clay @csb @adam This isn't a left/right thing. It's puerile to reduce it to a left/right thing.

@csb My response was to Clay. There's a tendency in the US to reduce everything to left vs right. From this vantage point, it seems puerile to do so.

@clay @csb @adam Again, you're trying to paint this as a left/right thing, and again, I respectfully ask you to grow up. Life isn't as simple as that.

@dave @dellagustin A new podcast website I set up this weekend - I've ensured CORS on the RSS, transcripts and audio. Probably one for your client to check though - CORS can be set on a host-by-host basis.

That nice @benjaminbellamy is speaking at FOSDEM in 50 minutes about Podcasting 2.0. Here's his page: you can watch live using the "video" link on the top right. https://fosdem.org/2023/schedule/event/podcasting20/

Just enabled @Podnews posts to be visible in the timeline. Given that there's no "local" timeline to flood, I think that's hopefully OK. Let's see. Also, updated Pleroma and it didn't fall over.

Looks like the new version of Pleroma is rather better on the processor cycles than the old one. That's good news.

@adam You're (deliberately?) mis-characterising my comments.I said his entire interview was fascinating. (It is - fascinatingly wrong in some ways, but still fascinating).I *explicitly* called him out on his misunderstanding about RSS namespace extensions.I also note you gutlessly quote-tweeted me, and did not mention me by name in this post so I wouldn't notice it; and so you can drum up hate against me somehow. Fuck that, Adam. That's beneath you.

@adam I've had to block some people, and was wondering where the hate was coming from. Not cool.

Very interesting. Upgraded Pleroma for @Podnews yesterday. The new v2.5 is *much* better for CPU cycles. This is most certainly going in the right direction.

Looks like it's official that Google Podcasts has been removed from search then.

Oooh. New ffmpeg scripts now bake in the captions, as well as take the initial audio from the WAV rather than a scratchy low-bitrate AAC file. Progress. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkEVdp8QlOg

@evoterra @joe @Podnews Gmail isn't going away. I trust Google with security, especially when you turn on the advanced protection (which requires physical keys), and email is a very important thing to keep secure. I doubt I would go elsewhere for that.I often try Firefox as a browser. Not found a decent alternative to Google search as yet.

For the record: @adam said I'd reported on a story about Buzzsprout and support questions following the removal of emails from their feeds. I have not reported about this at all.Instead, @samsethi reminds me that @Todd_Blubrry said this in last week's @podnews weekly review.

@adam @samsethi @Todd_Blubrry Adam also claimed that I was behind the ?premature? removal of email addresses from feeds because I was "whining about too much spam".On the contrary: I've been consistent in wanting something OAuth-like that is simple and straightforward for users. I even wrote a proposal for it: https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/podcast-namespace/issues/342This was disregarded, because one Apple employee decided that typing a token into a random field called podcast:txt was better.

@adam @samsethi @Todd_Blubrry It's perplexing that I'm being blamed by @adam in the Podcasting 2.0 podcast for a number of things that I'm not responsible for. While criticism isn't normally something that worries me too much, and Adam probably doesn't mean to criticise, he has a number of superfans that have decided to harass me here for apparently upsetting him.Perhaps my support for this project is misplaced.

An email from the broadband company tells me that the #NBN is going to turn off our internet. I go and make a cup of coffee. Internet is now off, and will be for 90 minutes. Peace and quiet. Lovely. #Brisbane

Now that we can have a new COVID vaccination, I was hoping to get one booked as soon as I can, since I've a lot of flights and events in March/April/May.The first question is "what brand of vaccine do you want" - how the hell should I know? I want the one that has been tweaked for the latest variants. What's that one? None of the websites appear to want to tell me. Sigh...
