@nztechpodcast I prefer it here, and am finding I'm spending much less time in Twitter.

@js @chidgey My ambition is to write something that works in the browser that would query a day’s worth of OP3 logs and give you downloads, geo-data, time-of-day-download data, and other things. I can write that in PHP easily, but would prefer to do it all in JavaScript if it’s possible to do. It might not be with CORS, I guess.

@chidgey@fediverse.cyou @chidgey@engineered.space These posts are the first few lines, and then that’s it. Not sure they’re as designed.

Enjoying seeing lots of interesting people here. Also enjoying following as many people as possible, but then not being shy to unfollow if they're negative or overly US political, or constantly share that kind of thing. Starting afresh is a good thing.

If you own example.com, you might want to give out @me@example.com as your #Mastodon username (or print that on your business cards). To achieve this, you could run your own server as I do, or you could put one hidden file on your website to tell Mastodon where to find your account. Nice thing from maartenballiauw@mastodon.social - will absolutely be doing this in a few places.https://blog.maartenballiauw.be/post/2022/11/05/mastodon-own-donain-without-hosting-server.html

So, I've fixed it so that a Mastodon search for @james @cridland.net will now find my @james @crid.land account here. That's good news.

In case you're wondering: the new #bot at @Podnews costs $5/month. It's on AWS Lightsail, which I use for everything else; and is just a 1GB RAM, 40GB Debian machine. It's running #Pleroma, rather than the rather more resource-hungry #Mastodon (which I'm using for this account, and spending 3x as much for).Pleroma isn't as pretty on the front end, but what it posts are identical to everything else in here.

And a lot of fiddling later, Podnews itself sends email from updates@podnews.net so I've made updates@podnews.net work in the Mastodon/Pleroma search bar.

Useful learning. If you're running bots here, you ought to post "unlisted" so that you don't flood the federated timeline. So, @Podnews now posts unlisted. (It'll still appear if you follow it). Apologies for not understanding that.

An early @Podnews - because otherwise the award ceremony would have finished! Exciting seeing the Podnews logo given such prominence on stage.https://podnews.net/update/australian-podcast-awards-win23

Have discovered Tusky, a nicely-capable Android app for Mastodon and Pleroma. Seems very good.(I'm changing this server to Pleroma tomorrow, assuming it lasts that long...)https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keylesspalace.tusky

@AnthemAK Thanks - I can't use f-droid (I'm signed up with Google Advanced Protection, so can't sideload), but I block trackers using NextDNS across all my devices so that's all cool.Looking at the screenshots, I don't like the look of it as much, to be honest, either...

@AnthemAK As a side note - I don't see any trackers in Tusky. It's also available in f-droid, too. But perhaps I've not looked hard enough

I need a new domain name for my new Mastodon/Pleroma instance. This one's social.crid.land - I wonder what the new one should be? fedi.crid.land or just s.crid.land perhaps? Hmm. soc.crid.land maybe.

@GWFF @CSB I'm leaning towards soc.crid.land "social" with no vowels is "scl", but that isn't obvious enough. Not that anyone will really see it.

@GWFF I don't want to use the root domain. Though @james works (and currently points here - I do wonder a little what happens if I change that!)
