@izaya I can recommend mikrotik switches for these requirements.Alternatively tplink, netgear and dlink all have cheap "smart managed" switches with a wide varity of shittiness in the ui.If you are feeling experimental: the rtl838x series of chips is capable of running openwrt (the rtl93xx too but we are still far away from openwrt working nicely on those)

@izaya there is a mPCIe Variant of the EG25-G. If you need more documentation or firmware for it: we use it at work and I'm responsible for *a lot* of fixed bugs in it ^^' (and it still has some which are unfixed related to IPv6 with too old 3G cells and related to "getting stuck in 2G")

@Rasp my anycubic i3 mega s works nicely, although I did some upgrades for quality of life improvements (silent stepper drivers for example). Two student teams I'm in have original Prusa i3 MK3 and those work very well considerung the abuse they take there (minimal repairs every few months vs the old ender that was broken every two prints)

@davidrevoy I think I might have some interesting context for this:Wacom "Penabled" does not have a second button but you can still get pens that have a second button for it. In those cases the second button switches the pen into a mode where the tablet thinks it's an eraser. The Wacom Linux drivers have a workaround for that that detects when the pen suddenly turns into an eraser and interprets this as "upper button pressed".Might be related in some way?

@izaya there apparently are people that build mainboards with modern CPUs that fit the x220. Sadly those are way too expensive (also It would need some other upgrades like a 1080p screen and a better trackpad)

@izaya @ehproque an x230 has at least one cpu gen newer ^^'Also there are people that build new mitherboards for the x230 - sadly those are *very* expensive.

@izaya @ehproque also how on earth are you getting 6h of battery life from a x220? Mine didn't even last close to that without the thicboi addon-battery

@izaya I think creating a "non vlan aware" bridge over a single vlan is the easier option.I have no idea how vlan remapping would best be done on linux (ebtables/nftables?) but the chances of it being more chaotic and less performant are high :POpenvswitch might also be able to do this but it probably is absolute overkill for your usecase

@wolf480pl @izaya have you ever seen someone unplug a displayport cable, not knowing it had a latch?I do prefer USB-C as a connector. The cheapest display with USB Hub and 65W power delivery on a USB-C I could find costs 110€ new - and it even supports 75Hz with adaptive sync and has a quite useable panel in terms of colour space coverage (and basically any current laptop supports this as well - even some phones)

@wolf480pl @izaya no this specific one is the usual 16:9 1920x1080.The cheapest 16:10 is marketed as "office" so you loose the higher refresh rate and adaptive sync and it costs ~170€.But different to the last one it includes a built in 1G USB-Ethernet adapter so it now qualifies as a Dock in my books :P

@izaya @wolf480pl yeah and current USB3 to 1G or 2.5G Ethernet adapters work quite well. Never had any issues with them (and even if there were some bottlenecks it would be better than WiFi in a crowded office space)

@izaya @wolf480pl the one thing most of the cheap ones are missing is a DP MST hub so you can't connect a second display to it.Dell has some but that is about a 100€ premium just for that feature.

@izaya the "new" VPN framework is a massive step up compared to what it had before. It is extensible by apps and allows you to block internet connection when the VPN is down.
