I will tell you why I have decided to stick with #Mastodon. No one is collecting and selling my data. No one is curating what I see. No one is using my data to sell ad space. No algorithms are influencing my timeline or dictating who sees my posts and who doesn’t. I choose what is “for me.” Are there things that I wish were different? Sure. But I will take the benefits I identified over the ability to quote tweet.

Judge Linda Hidalgo announced that she will be taking a leave of absence from work to obtain treatment for depression. As someone how has experienced depression, I know how difficult it is to discuss it openly when you are in the midst of an depressive episode. Yet, she did. @mayonesa I don't know anything about her politics or her work. But, I know a lot of people who are depressed, including lawyers. So I appreciate normalizing seeking mental health treatment and publicly speaking about it. If it helps one person seek help, then I am good with it.

It makes me sick that we demonize those seeking to come to the US. They leave horrendous conditions and take life-threatening journies. Immigration policy is complex & reasonable minds can differ on how best to manage the influx of migrants. But there is no excuse for treating those seeking a better life as the problem. It was wonderful to speak to Lisa Kloppenberg, the author of The Most Beloved Thing is Justice, about her friend & mentor Judge Dorothy Wright Nelson. Judge Nelson barreled through glass ceilings. I went to #uspol event where an attendee wanted to talk about the “elephant in the room” - Joe Biden’s age and Kamala Harris’ unpopularity. For me “the elephant in the room” is that for the last 50 years, the right has built a well-funded, well-organized infrastructure that has gerrymandered state legislatures, created a conservative #SCOTUS, taken over state courts, and is now set to dismantle the administrative state & public education.Democrats can’t think in 4-year terms. #democracy

@Aviva_Gary We also have to think multi-level. School boards, city councils, county board of supervisors, the state house, etc. and not just focus on the White House or Congress.
