But come Winter we had a reasonable dry period and so I thought, fine, time to get this sorted. I booked a plumber to disconnect/reconnect the pump box... because while I could probably figure it out - I didn't want to get caught out with our house water supply being offline.

Obviously that day was one with torrential rain and gale southerlies. But I went ahead and covered myself in mud and build a platform which will hopefully last longer than the shitty half-arsed job that the original plumbers did.

... anyhow. I was waiting for a nice day and for the ground to dry out a bit before taking the "after" photo. Feels a lot more solid now!

@strypey @ojala Also the cooling and stabilising effects of forests on climate patterns. They absorb wind energy (and solar) much better than a barren wasteland. But they will only offset our carbon emissions so much, and "the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago", so we should be planting for what we'll need 10-20 years from now while also reducing emissions and exploring other mitigations.

If there's one thing i'd remove from #Python, it'd be trailing commas turning an object into a single-item tuple. If you're allowed to force me to use print as a function instead of a keyword (why?!), then you can force people to use brackets to create a tuple of length 1.So many bugs I've wasted time on due to an errant trailing comma.

And I can't think of a single time I've thought "I really wish I could create a single-item tuple more quickly".

i hate jira. especially the fact that managers randomly change shit to make it harder to do one's job.having excessive customisation options is a bug, not a fucking feature.

Is there a movement for steady state software yet?You know, just software that does a job well and doesn't change anything, other than critical bugs and security fixes.

It's gotten so bad that I'm amazed firmware I wrote a decade ago still just works out of the box.Like there is some software gremlin that will slowly eat away at software being useful and predictable if you stop looking at for more than a month.

I'm surprised there are still people who go "Hi - how are you" in slack etc without saying anything else.If it was important enough to send me a notification, then please write a follow up.Even better, write your question/request in the original message.

The Roadside Rights Collective is the public face to our challenge against the road-side saliva testing deployment in New Zealand.Driving impaired is not okay and should face consequences, but the current legislation, and testing regime, is an egregious attack on our Bill of Rights.https://rrc.org.nz

The technology - the DrugWipe3S - also can't differentiate presence from impairment, and the standard the legislation relies on explicitly states saliva testing is not appropriate for determining impairment.

You also have up to a 10% chance of getting a false positive, and being banned from driving for 12 hours. This is an unacceptable accuracy rate for punitive action by the police!
