       @kzimmermann I voted for C as /bin/sh is actually different shells on different systems (dash on Debian, bash on Fedora, etc) though you _should_ only be using POSIX features in an sh script.With Python there's differences in what Python version is available (if at all). Could be as different as Python 2 and Python 3. With C your big concerns are architecture differences and perhaps some syscall differences, but these are less likely to be encountered as compared to the previous two.

       Is there a place where I can buy .epub or .mobi versions of books? I'm happy to pay for books, I just don't want to have to re-buy them when the new hot e-reader takes over with it's new proprietary format.

       @nantucketebooks That's fair. Fundamentally, I just want to move past PDFs which are just a facsimile for paper and into a format viewable at different sizes and aspect ratios. Epub accomplishes this (IIRC) by just being a wrapper around HTML. Skipping the wrapper makes sense too.

       Idea for a type system enhancement:Most numbers in applications are not abstract, but unitized e.g. days, meters, seconds, dollars.  As such, we should be able to create values that are effectively integers, but have an attached unit (e.g. $1).Numerical operations should respect the unit and produce a value of the correct unit:$1 * 5 = $5$1 + 5 = Type Error5m/1s = 5 m/setc

       @railmeat @mcc Windows is wild now.  When you install it, it asks permission to tailor ads to your interests.  Bruh I paid $150 for this OS, the number of ads I want you to show me is *zero*.

       IMO, it's hard to justify a computing device purchase unless you can install a custom OS on it.
