@deprecated truth. Part of the reason I have the anxiety issues I have now. Can’t trust what you are seeing over there. Everyone is sus at all times. Uniforms mean nothing.

Put tmux on my machine. Going to have to get used to it. I like the panes so I can have multiple sessions going for development and stuff. Need to work out the styling of it. Can’t figure out the TPM stuff for some reason. Probably overlooking something simple. Any #tmux users help a newb out?

Really find it humorous the amount of people who only read reports and papers about Afghanistan and think they know why the overall mission failed there and blame it on the US not investing proper training and readying the Afghan people for our Exfil. Contrary to what you have read in political papers and reports, the majority of the Afghan military and or Militia that was trained didn’t actually train. They would show up and sit and complain and leave. They didn’t want to train.

The soldiers on the ground know it and relayed to higher but there was nothing done except forcing more training on a people that didn’t want us training them. They wanted us gone for the longest time and never took the training or our attempt at readying them for our exit serious and now look at what happened. Soldiers in the military knew this would happen 15 years ago if we ever left. You can’t help people that don’t want to be helped.

A large portion of the regular populace were gracious and wanted our help. You could see it in every town meeting or community policing effort in talking to the local people. However, due to religious sects and how things are run in their country, no matter what we did to prepare them and try to help it was never going to succeed. Those that could fight were either corrupt or scared and showed little to no interest in trying.

Nicely done. I’m still in the process of coding out my blog and adding in features. This will definitely be something I add in. JavaScript instead of PHP but shouldn’t be too dissimilar.

@pyre35 @joeligj12 the state of Afghanistan now that the US pulled out and Taliban forces overtook Kabul within days of the withdrawal. All the effort put in over 20 years that has done nothing in the end.

@pyre35 @joeligj12 from my experience serving it has a long history of religious sects and the control from tribal setups. It’s very difficult to overcome their religious beliefs and the multiple different religious practices. Outside of that, the soldiers and militia members that were “trained” didn’t care about the training. You simply cannot force democracy into a country that doesn’t want it. A large percentage of military members could have foretold this result 15 years ago.

@melmc my question to this assertion that the US should send in more assets and spend more money to try and keep the Taliban from taking over is : Why? Why should we? We spent trillions of dollars and lost countless lives to instill democracy in a country that doesn’t want it. We trained and provided equipment and money to try and help them become strong enough to deter and excel and in the end it was for nothing. So why spend more and lose more now?

@joel yeah through job change and moving and new phones and the like I didn’t have access to my password keychain from previous iOS device so had to dig out an old iPad and recover the passcode to get in and then get my password. adventure but worth it to get back here.
