@cirno I don't have an answer for your question, but you might be interested in the Fritter app on F-droid. It does for Twitter what NewPipe does for YouTube, no account needed to follow people and stuff.

@kzimmermann @brandon My mother has no idea what commands, config files, or scripts are, but she can use her phone to text, call, navigate, take photos, back said photos up to the cloud, browse the web, etc.The problem isn't GUIs, it's corporations that are unwilling to consider power users when building their products.

@urusan I haven't really kept in touch with high school or college friends. I do have tons of leisure time but need to use it more wisely.For me, I think the problem is that I'm not involved in any hobbies or volunteering. I need to make an effort to meet people but haven't done much.I wonder if urban sprawl begets loneliness. Sometimes I wish the street outside was full of market stalls and people working, walking, talking, & playing. But it's just concrete and cars.

@urusan Density was low, but people lived in tight-knit families and tribes. You worked, played, worshiped, and fought with a group.I'm a shy kid who got a job in the city ("rural flight"). I'm 5 hours from my family. My wife & I entertain ourselves with our phones and PCs. We don't go to church. When we go out, we go in sealed metal boxes that speed us to the drive-thru or the store with its self-checkouts. We try to lose weight by putting in earbuds and pushing & pulling on machines.

@urusan My life has lots of upsides, and I'm making it sound worse than it is. I'll take today's Covid over medieval Europe's bubonic plague any day. Nor do I want to have six children and have four die in childhood 1800's-style.But I do think it's now easier and more tempting than ever to withdraw and avoid others. Some of the default settings have changed and I think that's why we're dealing with loneliness and obesity epidemics.

I couldn't finish a SurveyMonkey survey on my phone today because whenever I'd scroll down to see more answers to a long question, it would scroll me right back up to the top of the question.Maybe they don't test with Firefox on Android, but it's a good example of how you can take something that would work with a few lines of pure HTML and completely ruin it with JavaScript. And it's literally their entire business to do web surveys...

Bad UX: auto-scrolling carousels that have a slide with a bunch of details, but don't pause. Just as you start reading the detailed slide, it auto-scrolls to the next one and you have to click back to the first.
