Life as a consumer in Malaysia is easy: see "Produk Melayu" or "Produk Buatan Muslim" and the like -> don't fucking buy.Otherwise if it has no stupid mentions of race or religion, and if it's a good or safe product for you (i.e. for consumption) then please buy all you want. If it's a local product, I say that's better.

I'm adding this in case my point isn't clear to some: I'm not saying you shouldn't buy a product made by Malays/[insert race here] or Muslims/[insert religion here], please do.What I'm saying is that you shouldn't buy a product that proudly states that it was made/sold by Malays/[insert race here] or Muslims/[insert religion here]. The reason why should be obvious. Also for context: this is referring to the new "Darsa Fried Chicken" brand that are dubbing themselves as (what should be) a Malays/Muslims' choice of alternative to #KFC (due to boycott). For one, I don't find the need to boycott KFC because it's NOT in #BDS's list and I'm not one to go willy nilly boycotting brands just because - but if you are trying to look for an alternative to popular, foreign brands due to their rising prices and deteriorating quality (which most people say as their true reason for boycotting KFC in Malaysia), get your fried chicken and other fast food meals from #Marrybrown.I'm sure most Malaysians already have heard of it but yes it's local, it came from Johor and used to be something I could only (easily) get from there but they've expanded to pretty much everywhere for a quite long while now. If you've not tried it, or it's been a long time since you did, please try them when you're feeling up to it because their foods and also just as important, selection of foods are actually really good and much improved from their old days.šŸ”— https://bdsmovement.net/Act-Now-Against-These-Companies-Profiting-From-GenocidešŸ”— https://marrybrown.com

#NVIDIA is shifting towards and favouring their own open source kernel (not userspace) drivers over their proprietary drivers, esp for RTX 2000 series and up GPUs. They even stated that future GPUs will probably not even be supported by their proprietary (kernel) drivers, instead only by their open source drivers - this is pretty huge.Add that to the recent news that an engineer at NVIDIA has been contributing to the open source userspace drivers (not by NVIDIA) like #Nouveau and #NVK too. What a time to be alive.šŸ”— https://www.phoronix.com/news/NVIDIA-R560-Open-Default

The faster the #Linux community and #Valve could improve #NVIDIA GPU support on Linux, the quicker we could be rid of of folks obsessively chanting "just buy #AMD".I buy AMD for all my CPUs and APUs. I'd also happily buy AMD GPUs if they were priced reasonably and if they are just as performant or MORE IMPORTANTLY efficient as their NVIDIA counterparts - they're 0 for 3 where I'm from so that ain't happening, even when I GENUINELY want to switch to "Team Red" on the dedicated graphics department.RE: https://mastodon.social/users/gamingonlinux/statuses/112393531576384615

There's a "#Fediverse" API/service project I've found that is cool... but is filled with slurs everywhere and it makes me so uncomfortable. Even their license is named with the "Hard R". There's also the "R" word and "Autism" (meant to be demeaning) - I'm not even looking for any of these (I was avoiding them if any) so who knows what else is in there. It's a useful/cool project though, I'm so tempted to just steal the code (clone) and host it elsewhere (for myself) after hard cleaning everything up. What is wrong with these people honestly?

#KDE's default #music player, Elisa is weird. You'd think if you double click an audio file, it'll open up with the default music player (Elisa), which it does - it'll start playing the music immediately but it doesn't.It'd add the file to a queue instead. And the queue will be filled with other files you've double clicked and launch Elisa with in the (distant) past so probably the file you wanna play/listen to right now is ordered like 10th or god knows how many in the queue right now.Setting #MPV as the default music player it is.

Lol, I was right into thinking there was something "off" about #ZorinOS years ago when I was considering which #Linux distro to migrate away from #Windows. Shitty, reactionary decisions like this would turn me off so badly and seriously make me question their judgement. If they actually care about "privacy" and have issues with #Firefox (or rather, #Mozilla), something like #LibreWolf would've been a more natural choice rather than moving to a #Chromium based browser, as if #Google needs a stronger dominance in their web presence - let alone #Brave.ā–¶ļø https://youtu.be/pektPYhM7pwRE: https://infosec.exchange/users/mttaggart/statuses/114230776660812020

Welp, #PewDiePie has opened the floodgates to the #Linux community now that he's actually done a full video explaining his move to Linux, why he did it, and why he thinks others should ditch #Windows.I honestly expected a nothing burger video with not much meaning/input to it, esp to someone who's already on Linux, but his points were pretty interesting. Some of his takeaways:- He was tired of #Microsoft's bullshit concerning ads, #AI slop, and bloat - and how he really supports the idea of #FOSS, and gave the example of how cool it is that #Valve saw the issue on putting all of their/our eggs (shares) in Windows' basket and addressed that by building on top of an existing FOSS project, #Wine to then develop #Proton, which as a result has unlocked and enabled the expansive #gaming scene that we have today, not just for the #SteamDeck but all Linux users as a whole.- He, surprisingly loves the customisation aspect of Linux and how everything is modular - which meant we could change things like the GUI (desktop environment) and customise it as desired. He even (appropriately) used the term, ricing lol.- He, even more surprisingly, loves the fact that there are many Linux distros to choose from - when some find this to be somewhat a hurdle. He highlighted how you should just pick one and move forward, which is often true - this choice doesn't really matter as much these days (if ever). His choice was #LinuxMint, the distro he's tried 15 years ago.- He noted how, like anything, Linux isn't perfect and there may be sacrifice(s) needed - like how some apps may only be available on Windows, for #macOS, and likewise for Linux. His sacrifice was #Adobe #Photoshop, but he was happy to ditch the thing (which costed him 60 USD just to unsubscribe), and his chosen alternative was... #GIMP - I know some might not agree, but he liked it šŸ˜‚- He mentioned how searching (locally) on Windows is garbage, and everyone knows that's just... objectively true. Like him, I too was amazed how local search actually JUST WORKS and is super fast on Linux, unlike on Windows or macOS.- He noted how goddamn easy and intuitive installing/updating/managing apps are on Linux by using the system's package manager (app store), rather than having to look up the app installer online and dodging all of the shady sites with malwares and so on.- As if this wasn't enough, Pewds really went down a fucking rabbit hole, almost putting to 'shame' for most, all average Linux users (incl myself) by literally installing/using #ArchLinux on his laptop, which is normal, 'cept he's not using a regular DE like #KDE or #Gnome but he instead, opted for a tiling manager, #Hyprland with #Rofi, #Waybar and all lol.Anyway, it's a pretty cool video - and I underestimated Pewds' love for tinkering and using the terminal, so much so that I hope his users don't think that they actually need to use the terminal for the things he did haha.ā–¶ļø https://youtu.be/pVI_smLgTY0RE: https://sakurajima.social/notes/a4q9yw9w5i

The one person, ā€œin politicsā€, that I respect is Fahmi Reza. The dude’s a badass and he shares with me the strong belief he has and keeps reiterating - to nail into the heads of (unreasonably) obedient Malaysians that we DON’T serve or need the (people in the) government of the day, it’s THEY who need and answer to us, the Rakyat (people).I’m sure his contributions have already helped so much to instil a bigger sense of ā€˜entitlement’ in our people and how we always deserve so fucking much better. No sense in being ā€˜grateful’, or ā€˜forgiving’ - demand more, and get your demands met.šŸ”— https://xcancel.com/kuasasiswa/status/1931629451915546701

It's funny that the #CloudStrike blunder might have indirectly contributed to #Linux #game (anti-cheat) compatibility, with people like #RiotGames saying that they will follow #Microsoft/#Windows 's lead/security recommendations - even if it means their anti-cheat solution receding from the kernel space. #EA would probably follow suit too.RE: https://infosec.exchange/users/sambowne/statuses/114750528358765934

I've had friends, even close family members who's had a 'language barrier' issue at some points of their lives like in school, college, etc. - specifically with Chinese people communicating only in Chinese, or most commonly - gatekeeping certain (extracurricular) clubs and activities by either only accepting Chinese applicants, or accept others but conduct everything they do fully in Chinese, rather than English. It's very common to hear, and I always thought it sucks whenever I come across it as the reason why so-and-so couldn't join or participate in Scout activities, or some anime/manga club, etc. I'd be lying if I say I don't encounter this first-hand myself, but tbh, I've been fortunate enough to somehow handle or work around it myself, or more so have friends that are kind and have the common sense to handle it for me, to not really ever experience this as an actual issue. Not to say that my friends (most of which have always been Chinese) don't speak Chinese in front of me or anytg like that, they do, and I honestly like it and don't mind it - but whenever it matters, they'll always speak English so I could understand and join in lol. This is a privileged take tho, for sure, cos the problem I'd just mentioned faced by others is definitely a real thing that sucks - and it's not a 'non-Chinese only' issue either, my Banana friends face it too šŸ˜‚Anyway, after being in the 'job market' for over a year, I can't seem to STOP facing this 'language barrier' issue myself - cos I'll be reading through a job listing and go, "oh, that's perfect for me"... then they end it with 'Mandarin speakers only' - cibai, put that in the first point, will you?

We have it so good on #Linux. You could (incredibly) easily download a bunch of themes, icon packs, fonts, cursors, etc. on something like #KDE and make your desktop look like literally anything, even #macOS, and it'll look good and cohesive system-wide - let alone have something as basic as dark mode to be consistent throughout the desktop :))Those stuck on #Windows have it rough, to hype over shit like this. I don't blame them, I would've been on the same boat, had I not jump off it years ago.Microsoft has confirmed that it's finally working on adding dark mode to more areas of Windows 11, including Run, File Explorer, and more. I've always suspected as much that you could, but never bothered looking into how or confirmed it - but yea as suspected, on #Linux you could easily, quickly mount a remote directory from a different system via #SSH using #sshfs.Helpful when need something from a different PC, but don't really wanna copy it over (also using SSH) to your (working) machine - but this is a temporary/one time thing so setting up a remote directory via #SMB or wtv isn't really worth it.. so you do this instead.Freaking awesome. Should prolly write a quick guide on how to do so on my linux-wiki repo.

I fucking miss when things work on #KDE lol - like the 'expose' feature (what #macOS calls it, dk what it's called on #PlasmaDesktop). It used to work the way it shd, where activating it shows an overview of windows from ONLY the same app. Ever since Plasma 6 first launched, which was a long time ago, it literally shows a bunch of different apps too lol e.g. exposing VS Code also shows Thunderbird, Firefox, etc. which makes this 'productivity' feature essentially useless. I've suspicion that it's more to do with #Wayland, maybe, not being able to differentiate these apps - and a lot of these apps also show the stupid Wayland logo/icons too instead of their own icons like they did on #X11... but yea. It's a long-standing issue so it's probably already known, but who knows. Even #Dolphin 's getting worse these days where you can't even rename files/folders properly and requires some weird ass workarounds e.g. after editing the name in the text input, don't press Enter - instead, use your mouse/trackpad and click on the file/folder you're renaming instead to save the change. Pretty freaking weird all around. Most of these if not all of these, I found, is not an issue on #SteamOS since #Valve still uses X11 instead of Wayland.
