       @ZachWeinersmith i wonder if it has something to do with the fact that youtube implemented contentID to avoid getting asteroided by studio lawsuits. they already built the infrastructure to track media origins, which made it easier to build a system of legitimate attribution and compensation.and the same didn't happen to FB because... it's main thing wasn't video i guess? 🤷

       @ZachWeinersmith unless scaling laws don't hold for some reason, a boring AI decade means US&China have decelerated AI investment, because extrapolating trends puts 2034 at 6-14OOM more "effective compute" for SOTA modelsGPT2 to GPT4 was ~5OOM. I struggle to imagine a model that makes GPT4 look like GPT2 does to us now, but I don't think "personal AI assistant" quite captures itBref, https://situational-awareness.ai doesn't happen. Hopefully because of international cooperation 🤞

       @ZachWeinersmith apropos! i've recently been daydreaming about the principle differences between digital consciousness and our own.it seems obvious that robots would have a more borgy consciousness. but really, the info they're receiving from other minds would have to be very compressed due to throughput constraints, i.e. the exact contents of other robots' minds would still be inaccessible to them.so in a way, they'll be no different from us. this has done wonders for my sense of oneness!
