Today is the start of the next chapter in my life. I got a promotion at my job, which was offered to me because I had gotten a job somewhere else and my current boss wanted to keep me on board. It feels weird being valued and fought over. I’m now a Senior Network Analyst and will soon be able to delegate help desk tickets. I’m hoping for no more printer installations!

@haikushack @IgnisIncendio Hi from a completely different server. Our servers are run on completely different hardware than your server, and have completely different moderation teams and generally a different culture between our respective local users.

@haikushack @IgnisIncendio Exactly! You should also feel comfortable moving to a different server, if you happen to find one that seems cool to you. Mastodon has easy migration tools for moving servers in the settings.

@haikushack, the idea is that if you migrate from one server to another, you're shutting down your account on the original server. If you choose to have multiple accounts on different servers (which is a valid option), then you may want to use a different app than the official app. Toot! on iOS for example allows multiple accounts and you can switch between them pretty darn easily.

@DePingus, it's where a bunch of synthesists get together and stream original pieces of music using electronic instruments. It's open for anybody to join, we gather in com (a chatroom on the SDF public unix server) to plan the order of streaming. It's a lot of fun.@SDF

#PSAThere is no single company running Mastodon. There is no single social network Mastodon. Mastodon is one piece of software used by different users on different servers to talk to each other, some even running different software. Each of those servers are a separate entity with separate motives and intentions. I'm on the SDF instance, SDF being a public Unix server provider that's been running over 40 years. We're like a social club! Enjoy being a person talking to other people.

@Ricardus, if you're really unsure, or for anybody else unsure, it's because the SDF instance is surprisingly high up on the list of available instances when you are first signing up on the official Mastodon app.
