@mystik @mar77i @zatrsakr @exosome @smithy Please do not mix the two. Transformation of Saint Nicholas into Santa Claus is relatively new development of few western european countries and is not part of Christian tradition. In modern day Santa (as a red-coated giftgiver on deer sledge) can often be equated with western or even specifically american influence, so it is easy to see why Czech may not want it domestically.

@mystik @mar77i @zatrsakr @exosome @smithy Not by domestic tradition. It can be seen as perversion of Saint Nicholaus image at best and unrelated symbol of the west at worst. And same american descendants now try to further the perversion by making him a negro.

@mystik @mar77i @zatrsakr @exosome @smithy Rather, “what some western barbarians think Saint Nicholas is” – even if they care enough about the west to uncover such foreign perversions. Or just immediately be repulsed by western symbol, nevermind it’s origins.

@mystik @mar77i @zatrsakr @exosome @smithy Again. the relation of christmas and Santa Claus is also not a universal one. Nor a giftgiving aspect of it is. Nor a connection to Saint Nicholas is.And americans seem to be offended/insulted all day, so no real change here.

@mystik @mar77i @zatrsakr @exosome @smithy You seem to continuously unable to consider that most branches of christianity are in fact do not have Saint Nicolas mutated into Santa Claus. It is not attack on christian population of the country - note that video is referring to “Santa” – an explicitly foreign symbol, not Svatý Mikuláš.

@mystik @exosome @mar77i @smithy @zatrsakr Moreover, in eastern european/slavic traditon, the newyear/christmas giftgiver on a sleigh (but usually with horses rather than deers) is Grandfather Frost, that has no direct relation to Saint Nicholas and predates christianity in that regions. There is really no role for Santa, not as interpretation of a Saint Nicholas, nor as newyear’s giftgiver.

@mystik @mar77i @zatrsakr @exosome @smithy There is simply no transitive property of this change. To exaggerate a little [but probably not for much longer] If some foreign culture took your saint and mutated him into some black trans-lesbian abomination, you’re likely to be hesitant to consider it as your original saint, or welcome in your country.

Apparently combining MRs https://git.pleroma.social/pleroma/pleroma/-/merge_requests/3361 and https://git.pleroma.social/pleroma/pleroma/-/merge_requests/3524 it is possible to change instance domain without losing the follower/following statuses. It requires both domains having own instance that are using same database during migration however, as well as some manual data-fixing and API calls on behalf of local instance users to match states of local objects with federated instances. As result of migration, every federated instance will receive Move activity, hopefully updating user account details. For pleroma it means every local user will be duplicated on every federated instance, but they can be used interchangeably to reach local users, as long as old domain has reverse-proxy on webfinger endpoint to a new instance.I am still trying to figure out how to properly migrate existing local posts while retaining correlation with subsequent new replies, but it should be doable.

There are still likely to be some extras issues with non-pleroma federated instances.
