@tzycce Why would I adapt to a computer when the computer can adapt to me?I tried to learn dvorak for about 2 weeks... and then I just mapped the keys to where *I* expect them to be. I use a mix between dvorak and qwertz now.

@Linux @Framasoft I love the idea, but can you recommend some nice instances with english contents that are not run by conspiracy nutjobs?

@matthew @soller curl uses those, e.g. here: https://scan.coverity.com/projects/curl You can not see what the reported issues actually are, but somebody does obviously make an effort to fix issues reported by that tool. Those tools catch a lot and are absolutely worthwhile, but it is really hard to make sense of C and (even more so) C++ code. These tools also need a high degree of certainty before they can flag an issue: Too many false positives will make devs drop the tool as a waste of time.

@BrodieOnLinux I tried to avoid github for a long time, but all the attention is over there. I got *way* more interactions on github on a project that *only* contained a README pointing to gitlab than on gitlab itself. This includes PRs, where people obviously cloned from gitlab, but still pushed into github and opened a PR there :-/

@BrodieOnLinux I do not know why the maintainer saw the need to sell. Maybe the money was direly needed and those were the terms of the contract that was offered?Yes, this could have been handled better in an ideal world, but not knowing the situation the person is in: I do not feel comfortable to judge.maybe we would see less of this if we had a financially viable support model for maintainers? Not that I have any idea how that would look like.

@BrodieOnLinux Whatever you do as an free software person to raise money: People will yell at you. That's unfortunately a fact of live 😞 Maybe grabbing the bags and run is the best you can do in that situation?

@BrodieOnLinux You need a *huge* and popular project for donations to pay the rent.Donations will not cover the costs (if you count in developer time) of 99.9% of all projects out there. Many projects do not account for the time spent as the people running it can afford the time. That breaks down as soon as something unforeseen happens in live and excludes a big chunk of the population from participating in FLOSS, too.

@BrodieOnLinux Do you know contract details of the sale? It might pay the rent for a long time, or might just fill in a short term budget hole that urgently needs filling.I do not know that. I am sure a steady stream of income above minimum wage from the project would have moved the needle towards "don't sell" a bit though.

@BrodieOnLinux Your system probably is using this already (provided you run a systemd-based distro): The mechanism to run things as a different user is used in there for a long time now. The new addition is a binary that triggers the existing mechanism with a slightly different configuration and tints the terminal while doing so.The mechanism itself is more solid than what sudo does, uses less code, exists in your OS already and gets rid of one more "set user id" binary. What's not to like?
