@SuperDicq @yassie_j what is the alternative? Someone has to pay for those pensions right? Depending on how old you are, it will arguably save you more money on taxes than you'd get with a few extra years of AOW.

@danhon I think @SuitedUpDev made something like that months ago, don't know what came out of it though.

@xerz apparently people don't like the Lemmy dev cause he's a racist leftist extremist or something. Don't take my word for it though I just saw a thread fly by talking about it.

Edge sends all images you view to Microsoft servers by default, for "quality optimisation"This sounds like a dev team that has never been told no. Unless I'm out of touch with reality and there are actually consumers with demand for a feature like this.Seems like massive over engineering for a marginally if at all useful feature. But maybe "extra" features like this are one of the few ways for browsers to differentiate these days. Especially if the browser in question is just a flavour of chromium. The other way I've seen browsers differentiate, which I like more, is to add privacy features, but I feel like those ARE actually useful.https://mastodon.social/users/hn_discussions/statuses/110534854164026395

@xerz ah you got though it better than me then. I def repeatedly ran into the fact that adding "reddit" after my search query now degrades my results in stead of enhances lol. Is it just me or is most of google just bullshit surface level articles these days?

Oh no! A big company is going to bring a bunch of new users to our decentralised, open social media protocol! What ever will we do?!! This is the end! Imagine having to talk to all those people! Better preemptively block them before they, god forbid, interact socially!

@josemanuel that's not how it works. It generally only gets sent to an instance that has at least one follower of the person that posted/boosted it. People on an instance would have to follow a huge amount of accounts hosted on meta's server for a "dos" like that to take place.

@silverpill will the DID be where your profile lives? Like anytime someone visits your profile, its data is retrieved from it?

@silverpill I see, so profile data is either requested from servers, which request it from the onion service, or from the onion service directly. It really does need to be online ALL the time then, I was thinking of shortcuts if that wasn't a hard requirement :p

@silverpill BTW, have you considered using #freenet? I don't know much about it, but from what I've been told it's a decentralized datastore like ipfs, but it doesn't leak IP addresses.
