@Aether I don't see this take quite as braindead as "food comes from the store, not farms," but it is not much better. Rather he seems to think growing food is easy and anyone could do it. They only see the end result of an abundance of food but do not consider all the difficulties and complications that can happen during the process. Such arrogance can only come from a midwit.

A perfect example of the issue I have with many Libertarians came up again with the Renee Good shooting. No surprise, many Libertarians were against the ICE agent shooting Good. The thing about this situation is that like many other scenarios, Good being shot was not an event that happened in a vaccuum. There are many, many other factors that cannot be ignored. One of which is why she even had her car there in the first place.

Like many other agitators, she was there in attempt to disrupt ICE from carrying out their actions. And what are these actions? Dealing with those who were committing fraud and should not be in this country. And here is where we need to confront Libertarians about the bigger picture. What is their plan to deal with this fraud? Usually they are fine grandstanding about how they are against having welfare of any kind, but they have neither the will nor the capability to actually cut any welfare.

So when we have a corruption with the system when it comes to fraud with tax dollars, how do we address this? Libertarians may not like the idea of having different parts of government coming down on one part of the government (since they are often purists), but maintaining principles would come at the cost of having nothing done. Because it is not merely the immigrants who are the problem here, but other parts of government who are enabling and possibly getting their own cut from the fraud.

Tangenting for a moment regarding Colorado and marijuana. Libertarians may point to legalization of marijuana as a victory of "more freedom," but consider the outcomes of this legalization. Did Colorado become more free or Libertarian as a result of pot legalization? I would argue no. Libertarians who think in such short sighted ways will not only not get more freedom, but often work against themselves. It turns out many people who are pro-marijuana actually do not care about freedom.

So when we are dealing with having ICE operate in Minnesota, we still need to look at the bigger picture. If they can successfully make a difference in rooting out those committing fraud and make the system less corrupt, that would be a step in the correct direction to having more freedom. Because having your money stolen is bad enough when the government does it, but when it is stolen again through those who are cheating the system (gov officials included here), then it makes for less freedom.

@deprecated_ii I saw in a group chat of my real life friends basically saying "there has to be another way" when it comes to ICE operations. As if there can be a non-messy way to deal with people who are defiant to the point these commies are.Far too many people do not realize that every law has the implicit threat of violence if you decide to be non-comliant long enough.

@sickburnbro I recall a whole lot of Louis Rossmann videos going over how much NYC makes no sense financially. For example, how much it costs to rent out a space for a store front in NYC is ridiculously high. To the point that there is no way for a lot of places to remain profitable.I would not be shocked to see NYC call for a bailout in the future. It happened once before in the 1970s.

I frequently see topics of discussion where I want to chime in, but I realize in order to do so, I must reveal a part of myself that I fully intend to keep private. It is not worth accidently leaving a trail of evidence about yourself for some asshole who wants real harm done to you just for a discussion which will most likely no longer have relevance a week later.

@Aether this is even worse than "why do we need farmers when food comes from the grocery store?" UberEats is just a completely unnecessary part of the chain when it comes to the food industry. The worst thing that would happen without UberEats and things like it (such as DoorDash) would be people having to get the food themselves rather than have it delivered. Everyone else in the process is way more important.

@ChristiJunior @sickburnbro Previously he was that type, as he was able to win and be relected in a district in Minnesota that was traditionally red (and now is represented by a Republican). Since becoming governor he has gone off the deep end and has no trace left of the supposed moderate he was portrayed as. Did he stray from what he was before, or did he just show who he truly was? Either way, he gets no sympathy from me for his downfall.

I have a proposal to address the ICE activity/immigrant welfare fraud/immgration issues in general. This is a proposal I doubt anyone on the left would agree with (and probably a good number on the right too).I accept ending all ICE raids and activity on the condition that we abolish all welfare and welfare adjacent programs. If the immigrants are really making it on their own, then welfare being gone will not affect them.

And to make sure we do not fall into the trap that short sighted libertarians do, the order of operations goes like this: the welfare ends. THEN we can stop ICE activity. Thinking the order of operations are interchangeable shows that you have no ability to think.

@sickburnbro based on what was in one of the emails where Musk stated "why would I want to meet with a bunch of diplomats?", his autism may have unironically saved him from being another name on the list.Being a sperg is often a curse (speaking from experience), but it can be a gift when you make it not worth the trouble of those who are attempting to coerce you into something that ends up being a bad thing.

@sickburnbro what exactly will happen if Republicans win re-elections? A whole lot of heel dragging and posturing? The election matters little when nothing comes of "winning."

I have an idea to sell the idea of a net-taxpayer voter system to leftists. Use their hatred of billionaires against them. Talk up how billionaires should not be voting since they have been getting huge tax cuts.Maybe it won't work, or maybe it will force them to look into how much each group actually pays into the tax system.

@bigmattoidchimpin It does not matter if billionaires actually physically go to vote or not. The idea is to push for a net taxpayer voter system and to confront the fallacy of "paying their fair share" regarding those who are paying not only more total dollars, but a greater percentage of their tax dollars. And if it turns out that there are some rich folks who are somehow getting more than they are receiving in tax dollars, then they should be disqualified from voting too. I am fine with that.

@GoyGirl @ins0mniak @thefinn @Owl "The economy is bad" is a common refrain, but I must ask what country in the world has this supposed good economy that increases the birth rate. Meanwhile, people in dirt poor countries are the ones having far more kids. So no, I will not buy that line of reasoning.Feminism, on the other hand, is a far more prevalent factor in lower birth rates. Countries with more of it have lower birth rates.
