@nobushia Nice one. Looking forward to it. Just a friendly word of warning: please avoid burning out on it, many people do when setting up a game review website alone instead of collaborating with a wider community (preferably pre-existing one with all the infrastructure in place and sustainable)

@nobushia It's markup language, like TeX is. Both can include scripts though.I consider HTML as content and semantics, and CSS as layout and styling. ...then again, I'm getting old and am not a coder anyway :blobcheeky:

If you're looking for a job in #FOSS, I recommend following @fossjobs and @osjobhub

@Di4na, great post and I agree with the basic gist of it.One tiny thing that bothers me in the narrative is that also most of the paid software licenses include an "as is" clause. Depending on the relationship and negotiations there may be some warranties and other obligations though, yes.In any case, business should not be imposing obligations on (volunteer) #FOSS projects. They should contribute/support them.

The first time I heard about #FOSS and supply chain in the same sentence was when about a decade ago from Bdale Garbee (then VP of HP), who stressed that if FOSS somehow magically suddenly disappeared, the company would be in great existential danger. He therefore likened FOSS to a “critical supplier” of the company with the intention that the company should treat it (at least) as serious and as nicely as it does its critical suppliers.

The annoyance at that time was that companies would either1) actively avoid or ignore #FOSS, or2) take it and ignore the license (i.e. piracy)So several of us were trying to convince companies to3) engage with FOSS on FOSS' terms both license- and community-wise, contribute back and be an active part of a healthy ecosystem so everyone can striveIt was about helping #FOSS, not imposing obligations....how and when that got misinterpreted in time, I dunno, would be curious to know.

@EC_OSPO I wonder about the same number for the non-FOSS test group. :blobthinking:

@EU_Commission, wasn’t Web 3.0 supposed to be that blockchain-based atrocity, which never really took off?I appreciate that the #EU is looking forward, but am concerned about the need to wrap everything up in a tech-bro hype and industry appeal in order to seem modern and cool.An actually avant-garde approach would be to take a look at the implications of technology and what kind of society #EU citizens want to live in (GDPR was a good example here).

Super excited for my new #laptop to arrive! It will be a first new one in over a decade and a first non-ThinkPad since almost forever (not counting my employer-issued Dell). It's a #Slimbook ProX 14 with a custom engraving. Thanks to @slimbook for being super patient and cooperative!I have some pretty crazy plans with it and will turn it into a blog series … mostly so I remember what I did, when things likely go wrong :blobmelt:

While I’m still waiting for my Slimbook Pro X 14 to arrive, I started the blog post series about it:First post:• why I chose #Slimbook• which hardware (and mostly why)• a bit about the others I was considering – some, like the #Balthazar BPCD, are also very fun and probably a bit crazyhttps://matija.suklje.name/the-start-of-a-new-laptop-adventureNext post will be about my (crazy) plans for the install/set-up.

#Firefox 118 has local, in-browser machine translations. That’s pretty freaking cool!> Automated translation of web content is now available to Firefox users! Unlike cloud-based alternatives, translation is done locally in Firefox, so that the text being translated does not leave your machine.https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/118.0/releasenotes/#MachineTranslation #SmallAI

@Joe, to put my suggestion into perspective:I have been #SelfHosting for almost two decades, but while I did dabble with many tweaks (often failed), I still consider myself a noob on many aspects. In the past I ran #ClarkConnect, #Armbian/#Debian and #Gentoo on both #x86 and #ARM.I am currently setting up #YunoHost on an #AMD64 and I am in awe how simple everyting is.Some (old) musings (I need to write a 6th incarnation post):https://matija.suklje.name/5th-incarnation-of-hooks-humble-homepage

@Joe, what I love about #YunoHost is that it’s not just a one-click install for web apps like #Nextcloud etc., but everything else:• setting up SSL is literally just one click and *poof* you’ve got #LetsEncrypt set up• (sub)domains are equally simple to handle• for #DNS it diagnoses what’s wrong and offers copy-paste entries (for some registrars even a single-click import)• #email? automaticThe only thing I had to get my hands dirty with was setting #NAT on the router.
