@matt You can use 3rd party client for fediverse too.You can't sign into Outlook using Gmail! You can use the app for something other than Outlook, but you're not signing into outlook server as an outlook user. That's just not how it works.

@matt I think you should read my message carefully once more. You can sign into your email using the app. But you're not singing into outlook. Outlook is only acting as a typical 3rd party app.

@matt because Peertube isn't a client. It's a server. I'm only explaining how things actually work. I think fediverse people are partially to blame here. They introduced it in a way that created expectations.Fediverse isn't centralized. Each server is completely on its own. Like Facebook and Twitter and YouTube are completely separated. All that activitypub does is letting servers send messages to each other. Nothing more.

#Fediverse (and specifically #Lemmy) can never replace #Reddit, because of its obsession with #Fediblock. Just look at @fba and see how instances block each other.Regardless of all it's flaws, Reddit is a place where you can find all kinds of communities in it. From right wing conspiracy theorists to communists and everything in between. But on Lemmy, vast majority of instances block #Lemmygrad for being communist and #lemmynsfw for sexual contents.

@malakai I don't think more wokism leads to fewer billionaires. In fact I'd say its quite the opposite. Lets not forget even though it doesn't seem on the surface, when you dig into it, you see woke culture is pushed and advertised BY the billionaires. The whole thing is just creating a market of mindless consumers. Like always.

@malakai Ah I see. Its incredible how people on both sides can't stop competing on being more stupid.

@jeena I don’t think anyone has ever said it is "important" to federate with them. It’s about not jumping into conclusion and consider defederating without even knowing what exactly is gonna happen and how #Meta wants to implement #ActivityPub.

@jsonarray @stanford I don’t see why blocklist is necessary. Would you say how exactly its beneficial to block a list of instances without having any prior interaction with them or investigated them to see if they even deserve to be blocked?

@jsonarray @stanford that's a very generic claim. What baddies? Crowdsourcing moderation means the dictatorship of the majority. Even blocking a single instance should be something that is frowned upon. And done as last resort when there is no other solutions. (Like when an entire instance is made for spam or phishing attacks)There is absolutely no reason to create an importable list.

@stanford @jsonarray What you describe is just an asshole admin. Why should the entire instance get defederated for 1 person? That's my problem with defederation. In vast majority of the cases, the problem can be resolved by simply blocking individuals. But instead the entire instance is being defederated.

If you ever wanted to run your own #Mastodon instance and you want to use docker, I highly recommend #LinuxServer's image. You can get it up and running in no time and its very reliable.#MastoAdmin

@malakai Ubuntu does offer free token for personal use for up to 5 machines. But it requires you to use an account. Now, that's fine if it was just for optional updates. But its outrageous to push it by withholding security updates.

To make it even worse, when you try to use #Ubuntu Pro, it wants to install canonical-livepatch snap. I don't want any snap on my servers. I specifically disabled and masked the service so it won't even run in background. #Linux #Server

I just noticed I’m unable to follow anyone on mastodon.social. Even my own old (public) account over there! At first it seems I can follow without issue. But as soon as I refresh, it looks like I’ve sent follow request, even though the accounts are public. And there is no notification on the other side either. Is this #Mastodon way of shadowbanning users?!#MastoAdmin @Gargron

@malakai @bot @Bead @akorenchkin I asked my friend who is on my instance to test and he didn't have this issue. So it's definitely not the entire instance and only my own account. The weird part is that I can see all the toots from m.s. I just can't follow the accounts. I'm guessing I'm just limited. If that's the case, then well done to them. Limiting without even saying a word or giving a reason so I could request an appeal.

@Bead @akorenchkin @bot @malakai I've always been vocal about this attitude on fedi and Mastodon in particular and the obsession with defederating and limiting. I don't really care much about being limited. To me this was just another example of how easily admins can control users, even those that aren't even on their own instance. There are a lot of people and instances that are facing the same treatment every day.

Yes. I am suspended by mastodon.social! An entire instance blocked a user who isn't even on their own server. No warning and no way to request an appeal. It doesn't matter which server you're on. When the vast majority of users are on mastodon.social, it can dictate and enforce its rules on everyone. And if you don't follow their rules, you become invisible.well done. You saved humanity by suspending me! @Gargron #Mastodon #MastoAdmin
