@vaartis The primary benefit to using a credit card is recourse. If something you bought doesn't live up to standards and the store won't take it back, you can file a chargeback to dispute the transaction. On top of this, some credit cards offer additional purchase protection. Lastly, when credit cards compete to be your "first in wallet" choice to pay, they tend to offer incentives like cash bonuses, airline miles, and other perks.

@hntooter So her solution is to make information and certain speech illegal. Instead of pushing for actual security, we get more theater at the expense of our constitutional rights. Awesome. Somehow, I feel less than sympathetic for this judge.

@hntooter Your iPhone is made with slave labor, but slap a Black Lives Matter sticker on it, and everything is fine.

@craigmaloney Computer grief shares the same five stages as all grief. But have you ever tried to bargain with a computer? No matter how many megahertz and megabytes and megapixels I try to offer, it cannot be done. True is still true, false is still false, and no amount of bribery is going to make bad code run smooth.

@kev You lost me when you said "it's like Twitter, but..." since I don't see any value in Twitter. I created an account that I logged into exactly once, and they are dead to me ever since disabling the JavaScript-less interface. Probably not too harsh, but I struggle to understand what value they (the Twitter clone) offer in the first place. *shrug*

@brandon In not convinced Biden had anything to do with this, BUT more importantly, screw this guy. I wish gas were $20 a gallon or more. We are facing ecological collapse caused largely by human release of greenhouse gases, and this asshat is bitching about a 4% increase to his personal cost for making things worse.

@thor @epic I don't know about that. Personally, I find that humanity has chosen a path that will lead to its destruction, which is ironically a valid solution to the problem it created. It is depressing, but it's not in the mind. Humans are depressing creatures, and being depressed by them is valid.

@epic @thor Basically yes. I cannot change the choices that humanity makes, and those choices leave me with no future. Game over.It is depressing, but the cause is not internal. And yes, there are other kinds of "depression" (e.g. economic, physical) but I am referring to emotions.

@beebop @epic @thor Yes, giving up wanting something solves the problem of caring about that something, but that's not really a solution. It's logically equivalent to saying, "If you can't breathe, just stop caring about staying alive and accept that you don't get to breathe anymore." Problem solved? If you think so, you are the problem.

@hntooter A shocking turn of events: the company that has been cozying up to China for years is now adopting totalitarian surveillance technology against the wishes of its users. Nobody could have seen that coming.

@brandon In this situation, I think the difference is between some things being false and all things being false. If you define the subset M of all things, and all of M is false, then the is no difference between saying "some things are false" and "all M are false" because M is already defined as the subset of all things that are false.

@craigmaloney In my personal experience, apple chips are delicious and go great with sharp cheddar.
