Luka (@luka@sonomu.club) did start the trend (not only yesterday, he is doing it from time to time) to dig out old (previously unreleased?) tracker modules from the 90s. That reminds me, that I'm also sitting on a bunch of unreleased tracker modules. ;) Why not doing the same then? :)Well, back then, in 1995, I was not "the nmi!" I was "da nme!" and under that handle I was part of a demo crew called "YLYSY" which didn't release shit. Lazy coders, lazy graphicans, only me, the musician did stuff, lots of stuff, but it never got released, I never got "scene-fame" :(Damn you, YLYSY!!As a decent scene guy I had a #GUS (Gravis Ultrasound - the very first soundcard like a sampler with its own RAM for samples), and I primary used Tritons Fasttracker II for tracking. There was a kind of friendly war between musicians back then: IT (Impulsetracker - spiritual successor of Scream Tracker Luka used) or FT2 (Fast Tracker II). BTW, I've used Screamtracker as well, but for Adlib FM music (this wasn't covered by IT or FT)!Anyway, stuff had to fit into the GUSes sample ram, and this was 512KB in my case (later I've upgraded to whopping 1MB) – so there I had to make compromises to fit stuff into those 512KB, mainly by sampling samples down to 22KHz or/and converting from 16Bit to 8Bit.The track you're about to hear is called "Hallways" and was done in 1995 (when I was 22y). There is a Beastie Boys loop in it I back then didn't realize it's a Beastie Boys loop because I've recorded it to tape from radio during a show where no one said what was played. I honestly thought it's totally underground ;) . The other feature in this song was this: I had found a sample editor which could do Reverb! REVERB!! I didn't had the money for real gear, but this sample editor could add Reverb to whatever sample I fed in, and after only a couple of minutes (yes minutes) calculating... it was there!!! Because of sample ram limitations again, I had to use loop points to loop the reverbed sample parts in Fast Tracker :)Anyway, enjoy my former self: * da nme! - Hallways (1995)https://video.ploud.fr/w/a7qBac7yEKmzLzNtZfxUh3

Ummm. Of all days it's Today - the day Fedivision 2024 starts - that one of the largest Mastodon instances in existence is down :( * mstdn.socialNot good. It's also kind of proof to my theory, that super large instances are unhealthy for the Fediverse.Anyway, good luck to @stux@mstdn.social and his team to get this sorted out.Chances are unfortunately mäh. It's Sunday, and the Monday following is an official holiday in most of Europe. Makes it extra hard.also. see https://status.mstdn.social/status/mstdn#Fediverse #mstdn #mstdnSocial

Days are getting shorter. In the afternoon it's so dark now it's hard to see anything at all. But that's nothing 2b worried about if u concentrate on ur hearing. There are so many wonderful noises around u: Don't ignore them! Let 'em shine now! And to get a climax out of all that interesting noise (yes I've said CLIMAX!):TURN YOUR RADIO ON!'cuz it's time 4…Radio Irrtum!Oh yes, the upcoming issue of #RadioIrrtum! will be aired this Sat., 2024/10/26, 8:00pm UTC+2/Berlin time. Over at Alex Berlin FM at 91MHz or DAB+ K7D around Berlin & worldwide athttps://www.alex-berlin.de/radio-livestream .#Radio Irrtum! is a #germanLanguage #radioShow exploring the sonic vastness of the unheard #underground. It's totally fine to ignore that German language aspect btw – 'cuz it's all about the music!I always say it, I always mean it, but Today double that: This show is very special to me. 2 major reasons: - A Politics - B Interviews.Let me explain: Politics:I'm aware, this radio show is about music. Should stick to that. But in these alarming times I wont. The world is shifting towards the right extreme. So much, that fascist and Nazi ideas are being "normal", even being defended by the mainstream media. Especially (but not only) in Germany. 1933 (the begin of Nazi Germany that let to WWII) is so near I can almost touch it. On top of all go the climate deniers, destroying the planet for their stupid privileges; against all scientific proof.Even as a lil' radio host I will use my position to make the people aware about what's going on. I still believe we can do something, but we should do that together:If you are a creator on Radio, TV, a YouTube cooking channel or whatnot: Don't be silent. Make people aware! #JournalistsAgainstFascism B) Interviews:For the first time in my radio career there will be #interviews:Even 2 of them – so long they only fit in partially. So the full length versions of those interviews will be announced after the show in this thread. But there is also C and D – watch out!C) you'll never guess what will be played: - Hannes-Wader style songmaker stuff - #FrenchPop - elevator #lofi - #alternativeHipHop - #UKG - #BassTec straight from the #Amiga - #experimentalBass (interview!) - #IDM - #ArtPunk - #FemalePunk - #DeathCountry - Melancholic #SeaWave (interview!)The mentioned interviews – so much I can spoil beforehand – will be with Wrighter/Moonbase and Schall und Stille.D) All that wouldn't be possible without artists from the Fediverse like:@kaylapainter@mstdn.party | @h0ffman@mas.to | @herrkaschke@mastodon.art | @reverend@social.undeadnetwork.de | @stephan@sonomu.club and m0reI'll post playlist + manuscript + links to the full length interviews later in this thread. Questions? I'll gladly answer! Just ask!CU all on Saturday! :)Normally the German text starts here, but no space left. Will write something at my account over at @Herr_Irrtum@mstdn.social instead.

Two things!1st: New track #release: "Goin' Mirlo". - https://mirlo.space/die-nmi/release/variousWhy is that?2nd: Because I moved most of my stuff away from #Soundcloud today. This company is now feeding my work to unspecified AI companies, and no. I am sick of doing free creative commons for company suckers. I do music for humans. Not for AI. So good bye, soundcloud. What remains there is an #antifa track (can't be wrong to train AIs to be anti fascist), an old noisy track of mine from 1989, and this one. To cut deeply into their flesh or so :)I can only recommend to do that to other musicians as well, as long as you don't want to have strange AI clones of your music around (but without your spirit) and other people making money out of it.If you move away, try to stay away from shady dark patterns infested "upload your music" services.Personally I've decided to move from Soundcloud to #Mirlo Space (hence the title) - here are those guys: @mirlo@musician.social . I've watched them for almost a year trying to enable something different, something cooperative style for and together with musicians and not for some companies sake. Trust takes time, and I think I can trust the Mirlo gang now ;) .You still have other options in case you wanna move away from Soundcloud – a complete other model would be i.E. self hosting your #music with something as cool as #faircamp . Just don't stumble into the fangs of the next musicians spirits sucking company, doing this not for your benefit but for their shareholders. That won't go well. Never unfortunately. #fedimusicians #mymusic #acid #musicdistribution #creativeCommons #artificialintelligence

@pndc@social.treehouse.systemsClearly a spam. Their "created by people who love the Fediverse" is apparently only @ reiver @ mastodon.social (as shown at their .org page, don't wanna tag him here directly), an AI vibe coding dude.Yes, he talks about "The Fediverse", but uses Mastodon.social (unable to create his own instance?) but is only allowing Mastodon (discrimination of other fedicens - so much for the luv of the Fediverse). The login with Mastodon is a huge no-go, correct. This is how some of the big net companies operate (Google, Apple, Facebook), so people may think it's natural. Nope. Login on another site with your Mastodon or whatever Fediverse credentials (what they aren't support) and they have your password.Next thing: All the images of Fediverse accounts at the .fund page are mockups. There is no @ dani @ sonic.social , someone who creates all his music for the Fediverse for free (I would have known, it raised my suspicion), there is not even a sonic.social . Also the other accounts in the "get started" section image aren't real accounts, the instances don't exists but one. The last one is a full blown spam site redirector (artspace social). Figures. So the image of that sympathetic bearded cliche hipster at the .org site is totally 100% how Reiver looks. Sure. As Reiver at his glorious mastodon.org account says he is "b/g". Sure.Do NOT touch this.

When #Wayland was announced decades ago, I was totally excited. Rotating my windows smoothly? Oh yeah, count me in. Seriously! I totally luved it! Things like that (hello Compiz) were the main reason I left Windows back then for good.Nowadays I am forced to use Wayland. Gnome already has it as only option. And very very soon KDE as well. I am on KDE (most Compiz alike desk experience, that's why). I will be affected. So it's production ready finally, right? RIGHT?I am using Arch btw. so I am more or less upstream in desktop and all other regards. I know the "production ready" state of Wayland first hand.First of all: I can't rotate my windows anymore. MY MAIN REASON to use Wayland. Just gone. WHY?Ok I could still use WESTON, but I wanna be productive as well - and nope, WESTON isn't helping here at all.But being productive with irrational rotated windows means STYLE in my eyes. Would do it all day! Would be more productive with that.Anyway - Let's stick to #KDE #Plasma with #Wayland as backend. The thing that will be the only supported standard in a few weeks.Fractional scaling? Forget it. Have a second monitor, change it's DPI and start a VM with Virtmanager or some QXL viewer. Boom, a super mess will appear, and you can't do a thing about it. No fun.Does this happen with X11 or by sticking to the monitors standard DPI? No. Simply broken on Wayland. And don't tell me KVM desktop VMs aren't a thing. They are. Right at my 2nd screen.Apropos second monitor. Go fullscreen with Retroarch, Voutube or just try to make a screenshot with Spectacle (!) on this second monitor. Boom. Loses Sync. Whatever Wayland is doing, it shouldn't result in my 2nd screen losing sync. Does this happen with X11? No.Then. As a musician I use a lot of windows virtual synths and effects (VSTs) over #Yabridge. I know, I need those Windows plugins less and less, because the DAW-Scene is starting to realize Linux is a serious thing. Good. But for my old projects and very special sounds I still need Windows VSTs over Vabridge.Well - open any DAW with VST support (or Kdenlive for that matter) and yabridged Win-VSTs and see them all crashing the moment your DAW starts. One after another. Yabridge unfortunately claims wrongly some "host32.exe" isn't found, but that's not it. Because it runs totally fine in X11. Now some hardcore Wayland fanboys (sorry girls - but I know, you'd never behave this way!) may claim: That is a problem of Wine, while Wine fanboys will wine that there is a Wayland backend since version 10 so it must be the fault of Yabridge, while the Yabridge Devs try to force a Wayland-bug workaround (they do!), which unfortunately doesn't really work.Well who cares about Linux musicians anyway, ey? Fxck them. Or what? HMM?Is this, what you call production ready? SRSLY?And this in a time, when a mass movement from Windows to Linux is incoming / already happening. This is just unprofessional. Open Source can do much better than that.#kdeplasma
