I'm starting at the new job. Any good lines to assure my co-workers to switch to Emacs?

@worldsendlessIt would lead to Git creating branches automagically every time you check out some random commit to check its state. I can't imagine any other way to achieve what you want.@skyblond

@libreofficeSupporting this kind of (in my opinion rather obscure!) file format must be interesting!I'm imagining the moment and the feeling when someone opens one of those metafiles in LO only to realise it's actually working!

I have been porting my setup script from a pile of bash to ansible roles. So far it has actually worked very well!I'm heading towards a declarative system where I describe what stuff my workstation should contain and the configuration management system ensures that mt declaration matches with the actual state of the system.#dotfiles #ansible

@redstarfishYes, but because I'm building this to my work laptop, I'm going to use 100% stable solutions. Nixos and Guix would soon be something I'd try at home, but probably still too alpha quality to serious usage.

And what I'm referring to here is actually a GNU/Linux system, Linux being the kernel and GNU providing many useful userland tools.

@worldsendlessI use an extension called Put Windows to focus a window with keyboard. Another similar extension is Dash to Dock which lets me focus my favourite applications with Super+number.

@redstarfishIsn't Emacs the true GNU operating system?I love it as well, configured mainly as IDE.

@worldsendlessDrag the window to lefr/right screen edge. That way you get some tiling.

@worldsendlessSomething that really bugged me then was the lack of a proper shell in default installation. I don't know if they have fixed it nowadays

If I happened to have an old, 32-bit laptop laying around, what #Linux should I put there?

Or maybe #BSD or #Haiku or something else for an old machine, rather than Linux?

When I asked what is the best programming language for modern #Linux desktop applications and why, I received only one actual suggestion and zero justifications.I'll try again. What in your opinion is the best programming language for modern #Linux desktop applications and why?#GNOME #KDE #linuxapps #Gnu https://social.linux.pizza/@heikkiket/114999599280160080
