Just had a call about a job that looked decent, the pay was strangely high for what it was tho...turned out it's so high because it's a no benefits contract job. No...can't do that.

Had a strange job contact. It was for a relatively benign position, a low voltage tech for security and access control systems. I turned it down because I'm really too old to be working outside on ladders in the snow. That probably makes me a little bitch, but that's the way it is. The odd part was how many times they had to point out that applying would give them consent to call and text you about this. It was pointed out probably 4 times in the short email. It just seemed like they were making sure they could blow up your phone with text and phone calls after you applied. Didn't like that one bit.

@ayy I figure it means they're planning on opting you in to everything they have to offer. I have GV numbers for this reason, but I wasn't interested in the posting in the first place, so I didn't bother.

Oh otterbase, you may be a shitty job recruiter but that doesn't give you the right to spam me with your social justice concerns. I don't care what cause your CEO stands for, but you should know that my email provider automatically blocks you as SPAM.

@ryen @thegibson Only problem is, it's an Amazon Fire Cerebral Cortex Adapter with Alexa. So you get a bad skin on a barely-functional Android implementation coupled with something that listens to every thought and reports it to Uncle Jeff.

When I tell you I want to make $x a year, exactly what makes you think I'm willing to take $x/2 instead? Recruiters don't seem to have a brain cell between the lot of them these days...

@jeremiah I basically did so. I'm probably going to block this number, they're usually calling with entry level positions that I was overqualified for when I was in high school.

@jeremiah The recruiter in question is one that has constant internal churn, I doubt the person I spoke with will be there next month.

@jeremiah What really amazes me is we went through the whole spiel about how much I want and what kind of position I'm looking for. It just went in one ear and out the other, apparently, because she immediately tells me she's calling about this job paying literally half of what I make now. This is after I said I'm in no danger of losing this job, but it's just time to move on. I'm assuming that everything I was just asked is because they need Y number of phone contacts a day.

@jeremiah I can only hope. I've dealt with this recruiter in the past, and it's always the same thing: Questions, then the lowball. It's literally never the same person twice. I just blocked the number. I'm sure I'll get emails now asking why my number doesn't work.

I've found that working with this particular circuit board drawing program is less about getting the program to do things for you and more about sneaking up behind it and fooling it in to thinking it's doing what you don't want, when in reality it's actually what you want it to do.
