Seriously though i’m biased because i’m a fiber arts sicko but if you want to see a c. 1500 masterpiece in paris i highly recommend skipping the mona lisa and seeing the lady and the unicorn tapestries:- way less people- rabbits- you can get like 1 inch away if you want- dozens of rabbits- looks even better in person, instead of much worse- seriously they’re HUGE- moving visual disquisiton on the 5 senses plus bonus mysterious sixth sense- it has bunmy rabbits

I went to the Paris Noir exhibit at the pompidou centre a few hours later and felt like an art genius for thinking that this georges coran piece reminded me of the tapestries i saw earlier, until i read the label which said the exact same thing

Our innovative approach: instead of doing something, we simply do not do it. at a fraction of the cost

@eviloatmeal there’s an extended bit in one of the patrick o’brian books that revolves around characters confusing cryptogams (botany thing) and cryptograms (spy thing)

There was a dad in the store with his family yesterday and while they were shopping he was really curious about the yarn winding apparatus, so i explained how our tools work, and he started excitedly telling me that his hobby is making fly lures for fishing and i’m like welcome my dude youve been a fiber artist this whole time

Men love making dainty little doohickeys with jewelry and thread as long as they can theoretically kill a trout with it

I just finished john prebble’s “The Darien Disaster” and i recommend tracking down a copy if you’d like to read about a bunch of colonial settlers do everything as badly as possible for two years and then die

If you were setting out to colonize an isolated strip of mosquito-filled jungle, you might think it's very wise to bring thousands and thousands of powdered wigs instead of food or medicine. but it turns out that's actually a bad idea

The best gag is probably when they send out a second fleet of ships to reinforce the settlement, and then like five minutes later get word that the colony was in fact completely abandoned and burnt to the ground by the spanish several months earlier

I forgot to mention that the colonists decided the best form of government was to have a council of seven aristocrats who who loathed each other when they weren't actively dying of fevers and have them elect a new president from among themselves every single week
