@OpenComputeDesign I would say a cover is a deliberate recording of a track or regular live play of it. A rendition suggests to me more of an impromptu thing, maybe with musicians who don't normally play together looking for a song to do that they might all know. OTOH perhaps a very old song, not known from a specific artist but many artists (or "Trad.") so there is no well known arrangement to "cover" woudl be a rendition? I thought about that far too much.
