@ErikUden @JD557 @janwedek Actually, there is a better question. If there are two male (or female) co-workers, and there is a pay gap, would we fight it?I know I may be a little behind the events here.

@ErikUden as far as I understand, you used "position" as a synonym to "work". Position is measurable, but measuring the quality of output is more shady. Also, I see the 10% gender gap represents the difference of risk from the perspective of an employer, which is absolutely not the same regarding the gender of the employee. We may talk about how much is exactly justified, but the risk (and the gap) will always be there.@pclark36

@ErikUden and before someone attacks me on this, I think of this as an observation of many aspects, not as a rule that we must accept and follow.@pclark36

@ramin_hal9001 I stopped arguing with these people. Everybody uses what works for them. However, I found that many of them are secretly interested in learning Emacs but can't find the motivation or resources to do it.

@ramin_hal9001 another thing is terminals. I sometimes watch people having open 15-30 terminal windows as they run processes, edit files or work on some remote filesystem. Then they start using some kind of window management system which lets them arrange or search these windows. Solutions to problems that were solved long ago.

@screwtape As I see it, the "problem" is the ecosystem, which is tied to Emacs Lisp. This is the greatest power of #Emacs because there are existing Emacs clones with CL and Scheme already, but those are not compatible with existing packages, and rewriting the whole ecosystem is a huge, impossible work.So any successor would need to be able to run both Emacs Lisp and the other one.And there can be other obstacles too, like licensing problems.@glitzersachen @mark

@oantolin In fact, Common Lisp compiled with SBCL is already efficient, comparable to C and Rust. And regarding Emacs, the primary goal is not efficiency, but using Lisp everywhere instead.@dougmerritt @screwtape @glitzersachen @mark

@tristen this is like visiting a foreign colleague for the first time and demanding a sleep with his wife. Maybe in your culture it's acceptable.Online shops are a terrible analogy because they get paid for their services.

@elb Emacs is single-threaded. You need a multi-threaded backend to run processes fully asynchronously.

@tusharhero Last time I tried, mouse keyup events were missing and thus drag&drop too.We can do *some* things, but a limited set compared to other popular interfaces.@mekeor @divyaranjan

@crandel Not sure about what you are using, but I found most of the tools that didn't work within Emacs had a switch which made them output JSON - and then I could write a wrapper interface in Emacs which turned that JSON into an interactive interface. This, of course, requires some knowledge of Elisp and may not worth the effort, I guess I just wanted to add something to the conversation.✌️ @tusharhero @devalot
