@lain Rest assure, that if the world, in its imbecillity would ever agree to that, the 2 million would quickly increase, Iran would wield nukes and the entire region would be destabilized. The key focus should instead be to remove all taxes on oil and gasoline. Tihs would be very benficial for the common man, therefore the politicians will of course never do it.

@gav WTF? Has it expanded to a month now? That's insane! I think a ms or two should be enough, maybe we could move to the pride nanosecond even.

@r1w1s1 This is the way. But why nvi instead of vim or neovim? It is interesting as a teacher, when teaching people with only ipad or windows experience. After my linux class, about 10%-20% of the class come to me and say they had no idea that it was possible to become so fast at accomplishing things on the computer. The terminal opened their eyes to a completely new way of using computers. They go on to become great technologists.

@fosserytech I fear it is too late. The authoritarian EU is goose stepping already, trampling on any trace of privacy. Read and weep! https://mullvad.net/en/blog/age-verification-for-social-media-the-beginning-of-the-end-for-a-free-internet

@fosserytech True. We must be optimists. Anything else leads to defeat.

@Phil Very strange. Southern europe has managed to survive for thousands of years with these temperatures. Somehow, humans apparently have been genetically modified, so that temperatures above 21 C become lethal. Buy an AC, go outside, buy a fan, drink water, stay in the shade. It really isn't rocket science. If the spanish survived so will the british.

@sun Ahhh... are you conservative, nationalist or libertarian? Usually, if you're one of these three, you will be rejected by the majority of the open source community. Sorry to hear it!

@sun We can add Christian to the list as well. Also a group that the open source community loves to hate on.

@jeffcliff @gorskon What I don't like with Schopenhauer or with Kant, is that they postulate some kind of thing or energy that is beyond the material. For me, this has always been a non-starter. However... I always wondered how much of Schopenhauer is realy re-hashed eastern mysticism. I think he claimed to have come up with the exact same position independently, but I am very skeptical.

@jeffcliff @gorskon Well, that's the problem. If one argues that Schopenhauer says that it is energy/matter/material, then it just becomes a truism, and hardly profound. And not particularly unique, since the greeks had their materialists as well. If you take (like some do...) the mystical path, it just ends up being nonsense at worst, and forever unverifiable at best.

@jeffcliff @gorskon "but he *does* seem to fall into the 'forever unverifiable' (though he made his best effort at verifying)"Yes, this is my opinion as well. Where I find Schopenhauer at his best, is his short essays. Some of his observations in those, about man, are spot on.

@matthew @leanderlindahl This is interesting. As an american, why do you think that you should switch away from silicon valley? In europe, people are scared of Trump, but that is just politics. Personally, I'm always in favour of decentralization. Both when it comes to technology, and of power. What is your opinion on this?

@troed I don't see what the drama is all about. Granted, I'm not a professional developer, but I do know my way around source code. For anyone who wants to know, it is as easy as going to chatgpt.com and enter what you want to be done. It works for me. Would it make me 10x more productive? Most certainly not. But if I were to work full time with scripting/operations, it might save me a couple of hours per week or so.

@troed I guess this puts me neither in the anti-LLm camp nor in the LLM:s are god camp. But this is the thing... that's a boring take. Just like when it comes to vaccines. Most work, all have side effects, and historically there have been examples of horrible side effects. Again, that puts me neither in the "no to all" or vaccines are god camp. It depends on your condition, and what the vaccine is for.

@jeffcliff @gorskon That's brilliant! Do you have any notes from that course? I'm giving a course in resistance to disinformation, and I think your way of logic would fit right in in that course!
