@feditips @paigesaunders I ultimately dig that this is done in a way that’s more tonally diverse (this kind of video sure appeals to a different crowd than most I’ve seen), but I wish the advice wasn’t to just sign up for mastodon.social. I feel like if that continues to get bigger they’re going to have the same kind of moderation and content problems that traditional, non-fedi socials have.

@futurebird technologically, I imagine you’d never get astral navigation, which would make exploration and especially sea travel *much* harder, and culturally you’d probably not develop a set of constellations that last for a meaningful amount of time.

@futurebird @wdlindsy …what? I just… by what logic does this mean anything? “I know an old woman who would rather tighten her belt for a month than go through the bureaucracy of complaining, therefore anyone who doesn’t respond that way is illegitimate and therefore defrauding.”Alright, I see obvious false dichotomy fallacy, I see a slippery slope fallacy in the complaint=fraud, and I suspect a variant on Straw Man in the old lady being embellished. 3 fallacies, min!

@futurebird @dotsie @ainmosni I’ve encountered it more this year than ever before, with many people as part of one of my songwriting communities using it to produce demos. My thought? You’ll never get anything interesting out of what is effectively a tool to produce the “average” song. It’s all dull, uninteresting, and lacks anything approaching wit (this is true both in lyrics and audio). I’m fine with it for mastering, but it’s useless everywhere else.

@futurebird one of the few things KY got right is formally banning phones in schools. Doesn’t change their online behavior *outside* of schools, but it does force them to have a period of no screen time and to have to cope with that.Alternative pitch that actually addresses online content: begin formally controlling addictive design in social media and gaming. Any other addictive thing (gambling, substances) is legally controlled, but not digital concepts. Seems like a temporary loophole.

@futurebird I mean, I 100% agree with this, but I don’t think KY is going to rapidly change their education funding any time soon, and class sizes here are nuts (my wife teaches, her sister teaches, I’m occasionally in classrooms for music ed stuff). Until now, teachers have had to, as individuals, enforce phone policies that were not backed by state or district policies. Now there is a clear ban, which takes that losing fight away from the overworked teachers.

@futurebird I don’t buy the safety thing, though. That’s what the office phone has always been for, every individual kid doesn’t need to keep their finger on the pulse of the world

Fellow guitarists, I need advice!I’m almost certain I want to buy a Klōs Grand Cutaway full carbon guitar on their Black Friday sale. It’s expensive guitar, but I often play outdoors, crawling on the floor with kids, and just generally in rough conditions, so I think it makes sense. I also love that it can break down into basically a backpack by removing the neck and strapping it on the side.My ask: any klōs owners out there with opinions to share?#guitar #guitarist #acoustic #askfedi
