@entreprecariat going against the grain a bit. I briefly tried Obsidian (and DevonThink, and MacOS notes, and Scrivener, and I don't know how many other similar applications), but none of them worked for me because the absolute majority of my notes are centred around books, films, games, exhibitions, etc. Not only that, I also wanted to keep my reading notes more or less chronologically sorted. Mixing these two things (media-centric, chronologically-sorted) proved to be a pain in most of these setups. The only thing that has worked relatively well for me is the latest Zotero release (6.x, I think? The one with the revamped notes). My workflow is more or less like this:1. Create an entry for e.g. a book2. Add a minimum amount of info (year, title, and author), plus the date I accessed it (usually when I begin or finish whatever the thing is)3. Add child notes4. (optional) Create a separate note for quotesThis also works well when you want to dive deeper and write separate notes for different book sections/chapters.
