To our new migrants: Mastodon has CWs, please consider using them. Not just for potentially distressing/offensive material, but it can also keep the timeline a lot easier to read. A few on this instance (myself included) use it extensively to headline toots; click if interested, otherwise scroll on.

Non-technical Windows user has a copy of a video DVD* on a USB memory device, ie: file system copied over, so a load of VOB and other files.I assume, to watch it as a DVD, the directory needs to be opened with an application. The question is, what?*Digitisation of a VERY old home movie from one of their ancestors.

Hélène du Thoury is the best. Just sayin'.Didn't know Minuit Machine/Hante were mainstream enough to be on Apple Music (been accessing through Bandcamp) but it's all there, so having a blitz on the best of Parisian Dark Wave,

@bri_seven Just to throw in my personal experience, I am he/they because AMAB, but I literally don't give a shit about my gender, so there is never a case of being happy/unhappy about it. Personally, it's pretty much the least important part of my being. Maybe this is tied to my by the minute fluidity of sexuality - which defaults to ACE/ARO, but goes to pan.So I feel that you may creating yet another artificial binary, through that statement.

@josh Pretty decent price. I get Riverside Landing Chardonnay from BWS for $4 a bottle, less 10% for 6. Ditto their Shiraz. I don't know what the source is, but I think it's disposal stock, as the quality is what I would expect from $20+

#introduction thread. I've been on Mastodon (not just this account) ever since it started, but doing a new intro for the benefit of those who have just joined. So, hi, welcome to the Fediverse, I hope you enjoy your stays!I am 54, cis male, sexuality fluid with a baseline of ace/aro up to pan/who knows/who cares. I answer to Smiffy, Matthew, Matt, and a variety of non-English variants of my given name, for anyone who struggles to pronounce the th in Matthew. Pronouns he/they/hen; more concerned about getting it right for other people than myself (and would like the social default be to a neutral gender, because Fuck The Patriarchy.)English by birth, I have lived with my partner on stolen Narungga country (rural Yorke Peninsula, South Australia) for the last 21 years, with seven Labradors and an ancient quarterhorse.Veteran technology generalist by trade, working from home, currently in the remote sensing (LoRaWAN, 4G, rather than space) industry. I "enjoy" a number of complex, chronic medical conditions primarily manifesting as chronic pain, chronic fatigue. (My general physician describes me as a "medical disaster," and he's only half-joking.) Don't often use the D-word but yes, disabled. Somewhere on the spectrum, and likely to take you literally. Always happy to discuss this in case my experience can help others, but I alway CW material like this, and would encourage others to do so. Much of the Grumpy in my handle comes from this, especially the pain. Immunocompromised, so just wear a damn mask, FFS.Into languages to the point of obsession, food, drink, music, technology ancient and modern, Cold War studies including technology and culture, accessibility and social inclusion. To quote my bio, racists, misogynists, homophobes, transphobes, SWERFs, TERFs, GCs, MAGAs, antivaxxers can GTFO.Hates daylight savings and April fools. My views may not be those of my employer, although we're generally closely aligned on technical issues.E&OE

How it started, how it's going.I came home from hospital with a number of things requiring my attention, including a LOT of tomatoes, another bowl nearly every day. I have now reduced three bowls to considerably less volume of purée, which smells really good. Handing back to the grower/picker (my wife) for portioning and freezing. Then I get to do it all again tomorrow or the day after.

@Kierkegaanks Oh, so true. A lot of us carrying trauma from that. And, those of us from the UK, the "Troubles." I had to do a lot of work, to deal with my visceral fear of nukes, indeed, initially anything nuclear. So I put my AuDHD, OCD brain to study - history, Technology, culture, you name it. I could probably cure anyone else, simply by boring them shitless, talking about it. Love that album, BTW. I was 17, when that came out. @stib
