This is as old as the US itself - 100 years ago it was Daddy Warbucks in "Little Orphan Annie".If there's a recent change, it's that the asshole business leaders who exploit the government today rarely face public shame or stigma from their peers. Wall Street rewards WalMart and Amazon, and thus their executives, for paying unsustainably low wages and externalizing the rest onto state and federal welfare programs.#EatTheRich

@futurebird People do things for money.Big donors will give millions to candidates - candidates want money.Candidates spend that money on advertising and marketing professionals - those professionals want money.Those professionals spend money on polls and advertising and travel and logistics - all of those industries want money.All this money decides who will be on the ballot. That's a lot of money and effort.Voters then vote.This is one hell of a way to elect people to run our government. I feel sure that this approach wasn't what the founders had in mind.At the same time, folks in robes argue over whether or not there were laws in the 1790s that limited how muskets worked so that we might have laws today that restrict bump stops. They are very serious people and take the question very seriously.

And that's just for social issues. Democracy skills in the workplace are even less developed.It'll take time to unlearn bad habits and learn better ones.
