One of my current obsessions is reading #introduction posts. It started as a way to connect with folks but I realized I just enjoy reading them. Like a little peek into all these lives at this moment in time. So much diversity on this pale blue dot.

@freemo Thankful there is a recourse though, folks can get the boot if they remain toxic. I’ve read the rules and don’t believe I’ll have much trouble following them. The ability to follow different timelines, including just chillin with the folks I follow deliberately, is a breath of fresh air.

@lePetomaneAncien @freemo @derickflorian Just tossing this into the void since this toot sparked an idea. Once a month optional pass the hat event with a goal bar, and once we pass our goal we get to give the rest to a STEM charity or project. I would find it a fun way to support and enjoy our local community but despite the past few years I seem to retained a rather optimistic view of people in general.

@freemo @taz @obi That was the mail in the coffin for my bird account. I deleted it, no back up. Thank you for giving us a positive and comfy place to land.

@eloquence I struggle to see how it will retain its growing position without *some* kind of central authority. Twitter has shown like it or not there needs to be a way to authenticate some users but I don’t see why that can’t be just a small slice of the pie. What kinds of discussions are underway? I’m sure folks have discussed federation trust, certs, identity authentication, etc. If this is the moment for the federated web, is there anyone at the forefront of these discussions? Where can I learn more?
