today i release the code of my latest project: the "Gtk Application Server" or gas for short. It allows you to serve Gtk applications to authenticated browser-clients. From a technical PoV It's a fast epoll-based session manager and reverse-proxy built on top of #gtk #broadway. Currently, it authenticates users via LDAP but it provides a very simple extensible Interface to implement other authenticators on. @twizzay @midzer i think this is an effect of many tutorials just mashing saas-products together, then adding a minimal amount of js on top in order to get a basic site without discussing the possibility to truly self-host. so i assume there is now a critical mass of people for whom this is just the way its being done. for many devs nowadays the world ends outside the scope of the browser. and these devs write tutorials themselves.

@twizzay @midzer there are several measures one can take against getting DDoSed before even thinking about cloudflare. You can protect against SYN-flooding and you can analyze the incoming traffic for some common denominator of the attacking traffic. And due to the fact that these are Botnets without individual programming, there will be something they have in common. You can use these common datastructural properties to discern bad traffic and block it.

@twizzay @midzer If your adversary buys half the amazon cloud, rangeblock it. Then a DDoS requires constant upkeep in terms of time in money on the attacker side. You as the attacked have time on your side. It's gonna stop eventually. Is it truly critical that the traffic is available at all sides? You can have a backup blog up in no time and spread the news of this backup site to your readers on a second channel. All without even once touching the worlds worst global centralizer.

@nick das sind im grunde alles Notes die ausgetauscht werden, von den usern mal abgesehen. der @silverpill hat für warenaustausch ne spec geschrieben. die kann ich allerdings aus juristischen gründen leider nicht einsetzen. Auch hab ich noch nicht geschnallt, wie ich bspw. mastodon dazu bekäme, etwas anzuzeigen, was keine Note ist :)

✅ achievement unlocked: home PCB fab:this reduces my waiting time for PCBs from 2 weeks to 15 minutes. this allows me to buy my ICs in SMT-only. Formerly I always had to have redundant THT-variants for prototyping on breadboard. level: SOIC-8 (.5mm width pads)i had to resort to voronoj milling because my bits aren't precise enough. buying uv-curable solderpaste and better v-bits to beat my endboss level: LQFP-48. using #kicad + #pcb2gcode + plumbing.#cnc #electronics
