Finally a YouTube/Pod Caster has broken the silence on Purism. @jorge The @pidgin community coined the term FSUES or Free Software User Entitlement Syndrome many years ago.So many users "know exactly what needs to be done" in a project they know nothing about, and will never do anything to help the situation.Keep this in mind if an Open Source Developer snaps on you, it's probably because you're the 791st person to tell them your issue and that no one has infinite patience.

@stevenroose @pidgin @joinjabber as briefly touched on in our announcement post https://pidgin.im/about/pidginchat/, the intent of the service is to reach the @pidgin developers and imfreedom.org board members.We are a very small and unfunded development team who are focused on writing software and do not have the resources to administer and moderate a federated instance with open registrations.

@stevenroose @pidgin @joinjabber There are no mucs on that virtual host. The point of that virtualhost is to allow our users to reach us in the rooms on conference.pidgin.im and conference.imfreedom.org that we run for ourselves.The tl;dr here is that pidginchat.com is a way for people to get in contact with us only. If they want the full blown XMPP experience, ie federation, they're better served by a service that does that specifically.

The server running the #mercurial code hosting and a few static sites for @pidgin has been flapping all night. I just looked into it and it was a ton of traffic from alibaba cloud without any delay.Since these sites should typically only be seen by end users I just blocked all of alibaba cloud's address space via iptables. Instantly the load average dropped to zero and the service stopped flapping 😄#OpenSource #DevOps #Pidgin
