Does anyone else miss the days when #multiplayer games were all about individually hosted servers? The days when you logged in to your friend's server and played with the same set of people and you didn't have to deal with stuff like anti-cheat software, pay-to-win add-ons, and greedy monetization? You just played with people you trusted or ventured into the Wild West if you felt like it?We need to go back to those days. #gaming #retrogaming

@freemo @trinsec I go through periods where I prefer different things, I spent about a decade between around 2010 to 2020 playing 95% 8 bit games.

@freemo @trinsec for me the 8 bit era is still strongest in terms of long-term replayability. I've been playing Donkey Kong, California Games, Yars' Revenge, Seaquest, etc... since the 80s! All games I regularly revisit and enjoy. I can't imagine playing Cyberpunk 2077 in 2050.

@trinsec @freemo 2023 was different, but normally NES and 2600 for me. Those are my two most used systems of all time :) In recent years C64 has taken some of my time too.

@neil I find this kind of policy frustrating because it rarely takes the technical realities into account. When they talk about “banning a domain,” what they likely mean is modifying DNS records through UK-based providers.As for banning IP addresses, that would involve either compelling service providers to block access to specific IPs, or implementing a nationwide firewall—something akin to China’s model. Either way, it’s impossible to fully enforce, especially across borders.
