@stefan that's his style, it's "scream testing" as business strategy. Unplug the box and if people scream plug it back in. Sack the team, and if things break hire it back. It's literally the SV mantra taken to the extreme "move fast, break things"To be fair to him, it _does_ work - people are addicted to Twitter and there will always be engineers willing to work for him. If people are so invested into Twitter they built their emotional / economical wellbeing around it, who's the idiot here?

@lauren I didn't have any issues, it took a while to get a feel for it but was never "not welcoming", it felt alright to me> how many people here are quite explicit about using it to keep "the wrong kind of people" outi came across a few pontificating gatekeepers, but I just ignored them

@breadandcircuses @pluralistic recycling glass is not cost effective either though. You have to transport them, wash them thoroughly with chemicals (what if people had them with gasoline, for example), discard the chipped ones... from what I read it's cheaper to grind them back to a sandlike material

I was on Mastodon today and wasn't aware of the #chrisrock thing because it's not the kind of thing Mastodonians care about - none of the 4.5k I follow mentioned it. I then wanted to read more, but of course, there is no #search on Mastodon 🙄. So off I go to Twitter when I can search and where trashy popular culture is not frowned uponAnd that is why #Mastodon is never going to replace #Twitter

And who's going to monitor what companies do behind closed doors. It's hugely impractical. There stuff needs regulating, I agree, but we as a society have failed to regulate Facebook and Twitter, which are much easier to grasp, what hope do we have against OpenAI et al

@mac Look I am sorry that you USians have built your cities around cars and the average commute to work is about 1.5hrs of hell. But can we stop with this this tiresome "work from home" fetish? @rolle @warrioroflatte i think there are two different narratives (and two different groups) at play.One - can the #fediverse survive? Sure, of course. It already has. It doesn't need that many people / resources.Two - can the fediverse be the twitter replacement? Musk has shown us the world needs something like twitter (disaster alerts, news, public entities..). You are saying the answer to 1 is "yes", but many people are really asking 2. And many fedi-veterans want the answer to be "no"...
