@joeligj12 The comments on Ariane seem very positive - also on the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=oppen.gemini.ariane

@sean and dried cranberries. Both go well on peanut butter sandwiches :-)

@sean If you're not a composer and want to add background music, this might be of interest: https://tabletopaudio.com/ #gamedev

@apps This is bound to be useful for #gemini - probably in client. The API is delightfully simple ...

Here's my take on introducing #gemini to the local Linux user group. Given the audience it's a bit on the techy side. There are two versions. Here's the one without on-click pauses during the slides:- https://giovannimoretti.github.io/Gemini-intro/gemini-intro-No-animation.pdfThe overview page, links to original #orgmode file and and HTML export version at the github repo are at https://giovannimoretti.github.io/Gemini-intro/

@DeveloperMemes This is both impressive and an illustration of how complicated webdev has becoming - one step (each reasonable) at a time.

@sean I'd never used it before but wondered if https://searx.org might be better - it is but remove the quotes first https://searx.org/search?q=Can%20you%20power%20a%20house%20with%20solar%20energy%3F&categories=general

@freemo Thanks - didn't know they existed. I still miss the enamelled wire that would dissolve when soldered. Probably available from Aliexpress.com but I have enough wire-wap wire to make dozens of crystal set coils and tiny baluns ...

@fox Thanks for that - I'd only recently discovered the collapsible <detail> element, and hadn't occurred to me to use it as you describe. Now to add that to my org-roam collection ..

@oatmeal Nice. One of those conversions that's really awkward and errorprone without a script.#orgmode

@tk With the microVert the feedline is a significant part of the radiator, with the coil/tube end being just part of the antenna. Depending on how much theory you want to digest, this might be of interest: http://cq-cq.eu/mv.htm#englischUnfortunately there seems to be a truism with antennas - you can have any two of: making it small, broadband, efficient #hamradio #amateurradio

@tk Don't see why not - they'll conduct and being large nails will be fairly broadband has they'll be quite thick - I'm guessing 4-4mm or about 3/16 inch in diameter.Another alternative is a horizontal slot antenna, which surprizingly gives a vertically polarized signal. These should get you started https://ovmrc.ca/2023/01/2m-70cm-slot-antenna-re-purposing-a-satellite-dish-for-amateur-radio/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNqqvYlifyw Or for real simple glue some aluminium foil to a cardboard box and cut a slot in it 🙂

@tk Well Done - I've only every bought them - usually from Aliexpress.re the UHF cable's behaviour, SO239 and PL259 (although they're called UHF connectors) aren't designed to preserve the 50ohm through the connection (unlike BNC and N connectors which do).The impedance bump will get worse as the frequency goes up. Maybe that's the cause?#hamradio

@tk I tried a TEFV (terminated endfed V) https://vu3dxr.in/diy-terminated-end-fed-vee-antenna-tefv/ . It was 21m wide (25.6m wire), 7m in middle, ends at ground, no earth wire, fed via a 50:450 ohm transformer, terminated in 500 ohm non-inductive resistor. SWR was nicely low but performance on 80 and 40m was about 12dB (2 S points) down. The T2FD is mechanically more awkward - needing to keep the wires apart & resistor + heatsink add weight in middle. What was your impression of the T2FD's performance?#hamradio #amateurradio
