The new viewer in G'MIC can also be used to generate simple 3D animations, as the one below.A lot of cool possibilities!

CImg is the image processing library that is at the heart of G'MIC. A new book "Digital Image Processing with C++: Implementing Reference Algorithms with the CImg Library", by David Tschumperlé (from the IMAGE team of the GREYC lab), Christophe Tilmant & Vincent Barra, will be available on 17th March 2023 👍Definitely a good read if you want to code image processing stuffs in C++ 📖😎▶️https://taylorfrancis.com/chapters/mono/10.1201/9781003323693-2/getting-started-cimg-library-david-tschumperl%C3%A9-christophe-tilmant-vincent-barra

I've started to implement a new filter, named ▶️Degradations / Simulate CRT◀️. Still WIP, but you can already test it if you have the G'MIC-Qt plug-in v.3.3+ installed.Any feedback/suggestion appreciated 🍻

New command `rand_pdf` added to the G'MIC standard library, allows to generate random numbers following a custom probability density function. Useful to generate exotic noise, or even hide messages in noisy images!▶️ See: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/new-function-rand-pdf-random-values-following-a-custom-distribution

New filter ▶️Rendering / Random Signature◀️ added to our G'MIC-Qt plug-in. That's officially the 600th filter available in the main filter tree! (not including 'Testing' filters) 🎁🎉Happy New Year 2024!

For fun, I've generated a 4096x4096 image, that contains all existing 8bits/channels RGB colors (and each only once), so:256x256x256 = 4096x4096 = 16777216 colors.▶️ https://gmic.eu/all_8bits_colors.pngStill, the image looks like something!(almost 50Mb .png file, cannot be previewed).

@davidrevoy I think of a lot of other references related to Mozilla where this applies too! 😬

Today, we release G'MIC version ▶️3.4.3◀️.With the passing of my friend Sébastien, this may be one of the last releases for a long time.I'll try to keep up the maintenance and debugging as much as I can anyway. If you'd like to help keep the project alive, you're welcome! 🙏

New filter **Repair / Upscale [CNN2x]** in our G'MIC-Qt plug-in!This one uses a small convolutional neural network (CNN) to double the image size, while trying to keep contours as sharp as possible. Another cool tool in the arsenal of G'MIC filters!

@davidrevoy Let me know David, I've tested it a bit with linearts and found it works quite well. But we could even think about training a specific CNN model just from linear images (I guess you could provide me with a cool dataset, right ? 😉). I'm open to any ideas to improve it for very specific uses. Cheers.

@davidrevoy That's fine ! I'll write you ASAP.Yes, the downscale is simulated during the training. For the images, the more is probably the best :) In the training data set I used here (DIV2K), there are 800 images, but I guess a hundred would be already enough (yes, that's already a lot...).We can try with less anyway, and see what happens. We could also try not only with lineart, but also flat-colorized images, to have a bigger dataset.

New filter "Rendering / Speech Bubble" is now available in our G'MIC-Qt plug-in!This filter lets you create comic bubbles in different shapes. It wasn't so easy to make, but there was a lot of fun math involved! Enjoy! 👍

Starting the morning by doing a bit of coding for work, and realizing it has potential for generative art. Always a nice feeling! And another gif anim that loops perfectly 🤩 ▶️ Details (and code): https://discuss.pixls.us/t/creative-coding-with-gmic/17231/25#creativecoding #animation #gif

Apparently, G'MIC is now available on the Snap Store! I'm not a big fan of Snap, but if it helps users install G'MIC more easily, that’s definitely great news! 👍 ▶️ https://github.com/canonical/gimp-plugins-gmic-snap #Gmic #Gimp #SnapStore
