MU professor builds a solar-powered trike for $500. "The idea for the trike struck him last fall when he was teaching Industrial Energy Efficiency and Management . . . The class covered solar energy, he said, which sparked his notion of building a tricycle. 'It occurred to me that instead of just talking about the setup, the theory and the components, it would be nice just to make something like the solar trike and show my students,' Wu said."#Solar #Transportationhttps://www.columbiamissourian.com/news/higher_education/mu-professor-builds-a-solar-powered-trike-for-500-to-replace-his-car/article_9a7ed976-bc81-11ed-876c-5bdb8feb57ac.html

@clive For many people, the event is an exercise in seeing how much beer you can drink and still stay on a bike--very different from the usual cross-state cyclists.

This is the classic David Austin rose Abraham Darby. I've had this plant for 20 years, and this is the first year that it has died down to the ground from a late hard freeze. I was afraid I had lost it, but it sent up new shoots from its own roots and is now blooming prolifically. #Roses #Florespondence #Flowers #Gardening

It is a bed of roses! Some years ago I read that salvias might help prevent black spot on roses, so I interplanted my roses with salvias. I see no evidence that the bit about black spot is true, but the purple of the salvias amid the stems of the roses is quite lovely.#Gardening #Roses #Flowers #Florespondence

How Milwaukee Is Celebrating the Typewriter’s Long, Local History"As much as QWERTYFEST was a celebration of nostalgia and antiquity, it also acknowledged the ongoing relevance of the original typewriter layout in modern communication and culture. With its nod to the QWERTY keyboard, . . . QWERTYFEST is a reminder of the abiding power of a 19th-century technology that billions use every day."#Typewriters #QWERTY https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/typewriter-invented-in-milwaukee-qwerty-keyboard-history

I had a conversation this afternoon with the director of my regional public library, about Libby. She said that tagging books as Notify Me is what tells her what to buy. Libby notifies her about the requests for books from users, and if any book has more than three requests, she orders it. So using Notify Me is important!!!#Libby #PublicLibraries #Books
