Just a quick #intoduction,Hello, I'm geno (he/him)!I'm a reverse engineer and software developer. I enjoy talking things apart and understanding how they work. My languages of choice are rust and c.I've been in the "cyber" field for most of my career so far. My favorite part of that is constantly being able to learn new things. I recently started going back through the metal gear solid game series with a friend. I forgot how short the first one feels. We're only a couple of hours in and are zipping the story along.Does anyone else go back and play the same nostalgic games over again every few years? For me it's usually the MGS series, though I also did Wild Arms 2 (PS1) recently too.

I finally had some time to get the PSX memory card code working again! 🎉I'm not entirely sure what went wrong, but it's working a ton better now anyway. Had to debug it with a signal analyzer to figure out the timing issue. I thought it was caused by a reboot but I think it just got out of sync from me messing with it too much.The issue was the ACKs were not synced up with every 8 bits, but they are now! I've tested with multiple reboots this time to make sure that wasn't somehow the problem.

Here's something that I've been working on for a while that I'm really excited about:https://github.com/genonullfree/psxemcee/releases/tag/v0.1.0This is a #Rust library for the #RaspberryPi that allows you to read and write arbitrary data to a physical #PS1 / #PSX memory card via the GPIO pins. Basically bit-banging the data, but it was really fun to get working.My current setup required me to solder directly to the memory card pads, but I'm hoping to find a better solution for that in the future. Might buy an old PlayStation MultiTap or something and just solder into that so I can swap cards out without needing to dissect them.Let me know if you give it a try! I hope to update it later on to have a better API, amongst other things.
