@DJWalnut Huh. This reminds me of some of the weirder cutups / mashups that Negativland did. Only goofier.

@dankwraith Gab blocking FSE isn't about freeze peach. Much of peach pleroma is Gab refugees driven off by Gab's boomer culture. Ten minutes after the CTO enabled federation, peach pleroma goatse'd him.

The missing fediverse documentation:When I post a toot, what happens? What steps does my server take to send that toot to other servers? When people read that toot, what steps does their server take? Detailed all the way down to http calls and json-ld.I don't mean what happens for Mastodon (or Pleroma), I mean for any fediverse-compatible server. I also don't mean ActivityPub or Lightpub, I mean what happens today, in reality, not what happens in some idealized ivory tower whitepaper.

A collection of honeypot instances that contain "users" that follow popular gab users, specifically to eat up gab.com's sidekiq processes by taking as long as possible to respond to federation-related http requests.

@opal It was an observation on the vulnerabilities of bad actors on the fediverse and the inherent power imbalance implied by needing to cooperate in order to federate.Gab would have a hard time doing the opposite, since anybody they would want to do this to pre-emptively blocks them. But it is a thing a small pleroma patch could easily implement without much extra cost, and hundreds of small pleroma sites could implement it without noticing it.

@sean I brought this to the attention of somebody I know at Creative Commons, and she suggests mentioning it in the CC Slack (https://slack-signup.creativecommons.org/). They don't currently host any content, but you might be able to explain the benefits of PeerTube and whatnot and see if they're interested in taking it over.

@ceejbot the combat never really gets good. My main regret is not dropping the difficulty to story mode until I got to the last boss. Gaining more powers rarely helps; you just face tougher enemies. There are some basics to learn, but even then the control is just too janky and the combat flow too awkward to be called flow.

@ceejbot that part is still fun. I enjoyed it, and the story was pretty good, too. I never did figure out if it is possible to ride the Neverending Story dragon...

The #OUYA console was an early example of kickstarter success syndrome, where money and inexperienced creators put out a mediocre product. It runs Android, was bought by Razer, and shitcanned back in June, leaving most consoles useless. For the last half year, I've been working on breaking its security, while others have been rebuilding the storefront and uploading the games to the Internet Archive. It's functional enough now for a game jam:https://itch.io/jam/the-great-ouya-jam-of-december-2019

@kelbot There are projects out there to turn any android device into an OUYA. No guarantees about which games will work on what device, but look for "OUYA Anywhere".After the security for the store has been broken on the real device, we'll likely do something similar for users running the store/framework on non-OUYA hardware.

Jack does not tweet for users. Jack tweets for investors. This is a project that will go nowhere and do nothing, but using the word 'blockchain' will convince some additional Dunning-Kruger VCs to hand over some money. The last thing Twitter will do is federate with an anti-advertising, pro-privacy platform like the fediverse.

@deutrino Americans believe themselves rugged individualists who don't need no support from no dang community.Or at least lack the script needed for forming non-religious communities. But it does happen; I'd cite my capoeira group as another example. And obviously the fediverse is working for a lot of people.

Strongly considering moving the django-tastypie #github repository to #gitlab. Partly to not be on github, but partly to be able to use gitlab-ci instead of #TravisCI.The last few releases (compatibility updates to match Django versions) have been relatively simple to implement, but then an extra 2-4 weeks of fighting with travis to get tests to pass. This would be a lot easier and go a lot faster if travis had a mechanism for ssh'ing into a build container.

I'm a bit irked by the (admittedly tiny) role s.c had in legitimizing those who hounded kaniini off the fediverse. My understanding was that silencing a lot of pleroma instances (including the ones kaniini ran) was capitulation to a cancel mob primarily to prevent said mob from targeting s.c. I could be wrong about that story, but the handful of times I've brought it up have had minimal response thus far.Irked for a while, but now it might be time to migrate.

A Firefox addon that appends nonsense tracking parameters (?utm, clickid, etc) to most requests, just to poison the data collected by trackers.

@sir Yeah, I have a whole separate firefox install with that addon for doing Sleeping Giants work. That and a spider makes for rapid tracking profile acquisition without having to be exposed to an excessive amount of Breitbart.

I give a lot of creators $1/month on #Patreon, who just changed their fee schedule to include a flat, per-pledge charge passed on to the patron. The math: Old model: I give $1, creator gets, at worst, 80c, or 80%.New model: I give $1.379, creator gets 95c, or 69%.#LiberaPay charges roughly the same fees, but for the whole bundle. Say I give $25 split among 25 creators each month.#Patreon: I pay $34.48, creators get $23.75, or 69%.#LiberaPay: I pay $26.09, creators get $25, or 96%.
