@TheKinrar @gausby I guess it depends on how the reader uses this kind of microblogging service. If one uses it to check what is up and generally skim the feed, then it makes sense. But I guess it would fall flat on someone who reads every update closely.Thanks for an excellent service. You are doing a great job.

If I ever make a youtube channel*, I have no idea what it would be about, but the thumbnails would all be pictures of random objects with big red letters saying, “Don't use these!”This kind of mysterious and “promising to show you how it is really done” thumbnail drags people in.Thinking about this, “Don't use objects.” It is pretty good programming advice—it could be a decent programming channel.___* It wouldn't be on YouTube. Why would one support Alphabet/Google/YouTube?

@anderspuck what are the numbers on that? Most of the bigger channels (with one million subscribers or more) still accept sponsorships from some VPN and make sure to plug their Patreon accounts.

@anderspuck that is a surprisingly low number. I guess you would have to produce a lot of content though. Is it fair to assume that it would be more than 40 hours a week?

@anderspuck I think all startups are like that. If I were to start a channel, with the hopes of sustaining myself from it, I would diversify my income—sponsorships and some patreon like service. I don't think I would be able to trust YouTube enough—yes, they pay for the bandwidth, that is true, but if I could understand and navigate the rules for monetization, they might change on a whim one week from now, or tomorrow.

@heinzbeauvais jeg ville ønske du kunne lære det, for jeg tror, det er det, der er vejen frem og hvis man skal langt. Jeg er ikke ekspert, men argumentationen med, at det er sådan vi løber hvis vi ikke har sko på, giver mening for mig.En anden ting, der kan give rygskader er brugen af armene. Det eneste de skal bruges til er at give balance, så albuerne skal være bøjet og de bevæger sig kun bagud—kaster man armene frem sker der et vrid i kroppen, der på sigt giver en skade.

@anderspuck @folfdk @jeppe for et lille stykke tid siden blev i alle fri for mit nonsens i en dags tid—grunden var, at en person havde oprettet en bruger på den instans, jeg er på; denne begyndte så at dele billeder med ai genereret børnemishandling—eftersigende, jeg så det (heldigvis) ikke. Der skete så det, at profilen blev anmeldt til hosting provider, der straks trak stikket. Profilen var allerede bannet og slettet, men hele instansen røg.

@anderspuck @folfdk @jeppe problemet er dog, at angrebet er så simpelt som at oprette en konto og plante noget ai genereret billedmateriale med børnemishandling; hvorefter man går til cloudflare, hetzner, eller hvem der ellers står for det varme vand, og siger at serveren skal ned pga det ai genererede børnemishandling. Jeg ved ikke om billeder replikeres fra instans til instans—og åbent signup er umuligt.

@anderspuck @folfdk @jeppe jeg må tage et danskkursus så jeg kan udtrykke mig præcist :). For hvis åbne, decentraliserede sociale netværk er vigtige, og det er vigtigt at alle har mulighed for at være med, så skal der udtænkes en løsning på moderering; hvem der står til ansvar for loven; lovgivning for, hvornår en hosting provider kan trække stikket; etc.

On the topic of MeetUp dot com. I opened the app and got a “we care about your privacy” screen. I looked into the settings and saw that they presumably share user data with thousands of third parties.Screenshots attached. I only took screenshots of the top of the list, which is sorted alphabetically, and I didn't even exhaust the a’s.

What if I set up a Mastodon server, or a Nostr relay, on the open internet, and it was accessible for everyone, including people below the age of 16 from Australia, or people from Mississippi; would I be breaking the law in both places, and would I be arrested if I set foot there?This is a serious question, and I would really like to know the answer. Also, if I host a blog with a comments section that allows anyone to post, am I in trouble there as well?
