       Why we shouldn't be using #ChatGPT in #emacs: https://dindi.garjola.net/ai-assistants.html

@mitchmarq42xyz If they can run locally and we control how they are trained, that's fine, I guess.

@galdor I don't mean to be rude, but, when you tell someone to stop smoking, you don't really need to provide an alternative. The alternative to smoking is not smoking. Now, I understand that people (like me) need somebody else with Emacs lisp skills to build an client to an alternative LLM. In my post (https://dindi.garjola.net/ai-assistants.html) I was pointing to Hugging Face which has a similar API to ChatGPT's (https://huggingface.co/docs/api-inference/index) in the hope that this would motivate someone and that I wouldn't be ignored 🤞 Maybe I could ask ChatGPT to write the lisp code for me 😉

@nebucatnetzer @nickanderson One thing I use #Hyperbole in #emacs is to jump from log files with #python stack traces to the source code with the error. Move the cursor to the offending line in the log, press the action key and the buffer with the source code opens with the cursor on the corresponding line.

Is there a way in #emacs #mastodon.el client to have toots sorted with newer last? For me, time goes from left to right and top to bottom ;^)

@ms @louis The best way I have found to avoid key binding interference is use #EXWN as #tiling wm for #Emacs ;)

@louis @ramin_hal9001 @djrmarques My solution for broken #emacs is twofold:1. For emacs itself, since I compile #emacs from master once a week, I always keep the last version that did not have any problem. I build from git in ~/local/src/emacs and run this version; but make install in /usr/local/ if the current version has not had any issue.2. For my config: every change is committed into a git repo, so I can always get back to a previous stable version.I have been using this workflow for years now without any major frustration. And I really depend on #emacs since it is my window manager, mail reader, word processor, organizer, agenda, chat client, file manager, etc.I hope this helps!
