@fribbledom I'll be honest, even as an extrovert, four other people in the same room can be overwhelming

@maloki Even from a radical free-speech perspective, instance blocking isn't really an issue. Users can easily make accounts on instances that don't have as many blocks if they want to read what those instances sayIn my perspective, I'm responsible for keeping my users safe, I'll make some executive decisions, knowing full well they can set up shop elsewhere if they're not happy with it

@maloki @brainblasted No problem, I think we're on the same page hereI updated from blocklists I follow the other day, and the amount of heinous crap out there put me on edge too, and I'm not responsible for a 2k user instance like youStay safe, you're doing amazing work, everyone I've met from your instance have been lovely people so far, keep it up!

@mntmn That's the really cool thing about bytebeat, you can realistically run it on anythingI made a bytebeat explorer on an arduino nano (not sure how that compares to zz9000 and amiga), and the real limit was the I/O (I didn't know about bit banging yet)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt8E3MGyByc

@mntmn I mean, you need to maintain 8000 evaluations per second, which is easily in range for even really old microprocessors

@mntmn Not sure how hard it is to do, but if your formula runs in under 125 clock cycles, a Commodore PET should be able to bytebeat, lol

@mntmn I've seen people running 2 channel 22Khz 16bit bytebeat, which should be a bit more of a challenge for your Amiga, maybe?

@mntmn Convolution reverb isn't too hard to write if you want to slam a bunch of loops into the mix

@fribbledom I have a feeling the way they see it, if you're blocking ads, then you're wasting their bandwidthI don't know if it's true or not, it can be argued that there's a chance you'd share the link with people who don't block addOn the other hand, there's a lot of internet out there, I'm not too fussed about missing out on the bits that want to track me and shove ads into my face

@liaizon I was thinking about this kind of thing, and like, I don't think growth should be a goalLike, I keep thinking "I want more people", and then I realise that's not what I mean. What I want are more of the people I love and care about

@liaizon Right, but the more we look like "the next big thing", the more we'll draw attention from corporations and advertisersBy slowly building educated communities, we get a head start, and we develop a culture where when those advertisers show up, the residents will refuse them

@Are0h lol, there are so many workable alternatives to GitHub, including a bunch of self-hosted ones (I'm using Gitea that is just lovely to use)Do people not understand that Git is the important bit? Git is literally the easiest thing to migrate to a new service

@fribbledom oh no, JS is up against Lua, how am I supposed to choose between them?
