       @evan ActivityPub has a ton of momentum and adoption right now thanks to Mastodon, and I don't think a dev publishing a paper or a toy implementation threatens that. People should publish early and often.It looks like the biggest adoption spoilers might to be federation wars over moderation policies, followed by inter-instance latency.Basically, mods have to be made irrelevant; users must be empowered to set boundaries that work for them, are transparent to others, and are enforced broadly.

       @itzpaquet overly permissive open-source software licenses, rather. There was a concerted effort to make software licenses less "activist" than the GPL, and people bought into that.The GPL and LGPL and Affero licenses had the right idea.

       @itzpaquet A tool is going to be used.The point is, if you want to release open software that a FAANG org can't use, you can. Commercial orgs already find the "free-er" licenses inconvenient.But if your only concern as an OSS dev is to standardize a solution to a problem, then people are going to use it for their own purposes.
