@cwebber Good standards get created for bizarre reasons. Like ... SQL is with us because IBM and Oracle wanted to undermine Ingres.

@futurebird Seems like a library would actually be the answer here. It's what they do. Could we get the LoC interested? Maybe a new library? There's a lot of out-of-work trained librarians, and many have "findability" skills. If we could raise a few $million there'd be no problem finding staff.

@futurebird You already aware of the history of how we ended up with the current (terrible) not-really-a-debate?

Some Do Nots for #Keynotes at #kubecon 1. No architecture diagrams with more than 5 objects. Ideally, no arch diagrams at all.2. Slides shouldn't have more than 40 words of text.3. Don't try to explain all of your project's features in a 5 minute keynote. Pick one, and show it off.#speakertips

@chrisjrn @mcc Eben Moglin's views, mostly (not that that makes things better). It would be fascinating for someone to do an analysis of GPLv3 today and whether Moglin successfully future-proofed it.

@futurebird Likely: If the artist is legally or social media savvy, and can make C&D letters or a media campaign happen, the shirts will get blocked, only to reappear on a less accessible site. If they are not, they will complain a lot but nothing will change.Should: There's no fast answer here. The area of "style" or "character" copying is murky, and AI doesn't actually change it; it's still a total judgement call whether copying happened or not.

@futurebird What class is the essay in?If it's in English, Composition, Persuasive Writing etc. it's a problem. If the essay is in some other topic, who cares? Also, what did the prof say about using LLMs at the start of class?

@futurebird Should Happen: Like the prior question: what is the contest's policy on using AI? If it's not prohibited, then it's legit, yes? If it is prohibited, she should give the prize back. If it's prohibited, though, the contest will need to think hard about what "AI" is.For one thing, it is very unlikely that the other students used no AI. Any of them that used Adobe tools used a host of enhancing ML, they just didn't use it for the *idea*.

@futurebird No question, which is why, like calculators, computers, phones, Wikipedia, etc., the teachers should lay out clear rules at the beginning of the term.

@futurebird Thank you for that! I love to have the perspective of someone who celebrates it; I don't really know anyone else. What did your family eat to celebrate?
