@OpenComputeDesign No idea about the ethernet port, but you could do some of the downloads via a dedicated download application, like aria2.aria2 has an option for that: https://aria2.github.io/manual/en/html/aria2c.html#cmdoption-max-overall-download-limit

@nicemicro I mean, these days, there is often a lot of interaction. There's an expectation for regular updates and you probably need to operate a backend server to make your application useful.I'm also not sure, if production cost would play into this, but that's always why I don't really see software as a traditional product. You don't have production costs per individual unit sold.Rather, you invest upfront and ask customers some arbitrary amount of money to hopefully cover those costs...

@jcbrand Eh, the context is weird and the stilted writing doesn't make it better, but I don't think the core of the message is wrong. It's basically saying that experiencing new things isn't necessarily meaningful and doesn't necessarily make you happy, but may still make your life feel worth living, just in a different way.

@apps Is there a way to easily access the stacktrace without going through the e-mail report?

@cope In a local store here, they have this hazelnut spread which consists out of 55% dates, 44% hazelnut and 1% cocoa.Insanely expensive, but you do taste that it's not just sugar+oil.@eviloatmeal @helene

@the_will Yeah, the official Mastodon apps are a bit weird in this regard. From what I've heard, the Local Timeline is hard to find (which I guess, you may have already found) and the Federated Timeline isn't accessible at all.

Anyone know how it's possible for my browser to display an image or playback audio for which the server tells me 403 Forbidden when I go to download it?

@hil I'm like 99.9% sure that this one is being served via HTTP: http://ccmixter.org/files/Robbero/59698But I just tried downloading that one from a different device and it worked, so maybe it is some local problem after all. I did try via a different browser before and that didn't work either...

@hil It just makes no sense to me. Like, if it's not a bug in the browser, how in the world do my browsers download it for playback, but can't download it otherwise...

@TurdFergusonYeah, I'm asking myself critical mass for what?Critical mass to be a self-sustained community with interesting people? Long past that.Critical mass for world domination? Maybe not quite there yet, but I don't think that would make the experience better...@seraph

@captain Yeah, lots of activity in my federated timeline and I've seen many instances needing to upgrade hardware due to the huge waves of people.

@Linux_in_a_Bit Bit off-topic, but:> Proponents of philosophical zombie arguments [...] argue that since a philosophical zombie is by definition physically identical to a conscious person (considered to consciously experience qualia), even its logical possibility would refute physicalism, because it would establish the existence of conscious experience of qualia as a further fact.Holy mother of circular reasoning. To summarise this argument: "Assuming humans are non-physically distinguished from p-zombies by something we'll call consciousness, then saying that p-zombies are non-physically distinguished from humans by *not* having consciousness means that consciousness must exists. LOL"

So, my laptop used to have 4 feetsies. Two of them have been missing for years. And just now, within ten minutes of each other, the other two feetsies fell off, while I wasn't even using the laptop. (β•―ο½₯α΄—ο½₯) β•―οΈ΅ ⌨

@apps Wow, I always add rainbows to my projects in hopes of deterring hateful people, but didn't think many would actually be deterred by just some colors. All these hateful comments here make me want to throw in even more gay rainbows.
