If you're an OSS project maintainer (or, honestly, a project maintainer of any kind), this DjangoCon US talk is worth your time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLkRK2rJGB0 The advice about Twitter hasn't aged well (in just 6 weeks...) but the blogging alternative is still good :-)

One thing that I’ve noticed in my personal Masto transition is that I’ve lost my “daily news” feeds. I used to subscribe to major mastheads to get headlines; now I only really get the news that gets other users cross-posting articles. How are y’all getting your daily news fix? Are there any newspapers with a Masto presence)? Is there an RSS-Masto reposter that can be used to pull masthead RSS feeds into my Masto client? Or do I just need to resurrect an RSS client as part of my daily ritual?

Want to know why I don't believe AI code assistants trained on public code samples will work? Because they're trained on things like this Stack Overflow answer:https://stackoverflow.com/questions/25981703/pip-install-fails-with-connection-error-ssl-certificate-verify-failed-certipip install throwing an SSL error? The recommended solutions are:* disable HTTPS verification* Blindly accept pypi.org as a trusted source* Update your global pip options to do one or both of the above. You have to dig pretty deep to get to the right answer - "fix your root certificate".

And - to be clear, those answers all... "work". The error *does* go away.I guess the upside is that this model of "working" promises to singlehandledly provide an almost endless supply of consulting income, long into my retirement.

Dear Google: when I am searching for a Python term, I would like you to prioritize the results pointing to the actual python.org documentation, not the dozen content farms that have popped up that republish copies of the Python documentation so they can cover them with ads.

@andrew @carlton This. The company that works out how to manage deployment and basic management of small-to-medium sized cloud services will make a mint. Think containers, but for the entire server stack, with a UX For upgrades that is “click button, receive bacon”, with easy migration between hosting providers.

Do I have any Slovenian followers? Tom Scott, in a recent video, used the Slovenian word “udarniško”, translated as “grassroots volunteer work, done for the benefit of the community”. It sounds like a perfect phrase for so much FLOSS community work, I can’t find any corroboration of that translation. Can anyone confirm/clarify the definition?
