@pea In the Fediverse's defence I was a shitty sysadmin before I got here.

@thegibson My fear is that it'll be done in a simpler way than that. Governments want to regulate social media and Big Social Media want the fediverse gone. So, Big Social Media could agree to submit to regulation in return for governments shutting down the fediverse.

@astheroth Personally i think this is a bad sign for the western economy as a whole. Consumers are lengthening the time they keep a phone for and are repairing them rather than buying new when they break. Could be a sign that they don't have the money to afford the upgrades they once did.

@astheroth As for Apple, it's been able to pull off the magic of having Ferrari-level profit margins with Toyota market size for a long time. Investors are scared this is coming to an end. Apple won't go broke any time soon (it's got a lot of cash in the bank) but a lot of investors are worried that it's stocks have hit a peak and are running for the exit.

@yogthos The problem is that FB are keeping "shadow profiles" on all of the people that are not on FB. The only way to *not* give Zucc data is to not use the web.

@yogthos Fair enough. I was actually thinking of going the other way: write a bot that browses the web while logged in as me on FB. The idea is to just fill by data stream with so much noise that it's impossible to find the signal.

@ohyran Someone call Boris Johnson. He can use this in his campaign to be British PM.
