My son gets a homework packet every week. Three pages stapled together. Today he decided to be _clever_. He _cut out_ one of the pages and _glued it_ to another page, so that he wouldn't have to do the front of one page and the back of another.Like I wouldn't notice? And, even more importantly, like the teacher wouldn't notice? Absolutely incredible performance š¤£Talmbout "I don't know why it's wet" and "the page ripped out when my teacher grabbed it from me."Some serious effort went into this attempted deception. Dare I say, more effort than would have been required to do the homework that he avoided!

I had three people separately respond to my last toot with one letter each, in the span of 30 minutes, spelling out the first three letters of the N word.Am I wrong to guess that this is some intentionally racist behavior? I looked at each of the profiles and they each seem otherwise normal.WTF is going on here? Is this common?

I think we won't know when AI is conscious because we don't have a good definition of consciousness. Consciousness may not be an actual "thing" that exists.

I'm not saying the AI doomers are wrong. I am saying that I find their arguments unconvincing and maybe the AI doomers need new spokespeople.I listened to a couple hours of Fridman's interview of Yudkowsky and it seemed that his argument was mostly "it's self evident."I listened to Hinton on the MIT Technology Review and it seemed that his argument was "the AI will be like a parent and we will be like the two year old child."We need some better arguments, and especially some concrete examples. I feel like we dealt with this exact problem with those warning of climate change's impacts for decades. Namely a lack of relatable scenarios.
